#africainfocusTV #ECDPM LAUNCHES ECOWAS-EAC-SADC REPORT ON #GOVERNANCE AGENDA, #CSO ENGAGEMENT Regional economic communities (RECs) in Africa are tasked with promoting democratic norms in their regions. However, the division of roles between the African Union and #RECs is often unclear, and REC involvement in democratic governance varies. This inconsistency creates challenges for civil society organisations (CSOs) trying to engage with RECs on democracy issues. The findings show that not all RECs have developed equally strong frameworks for democracy promotion, and even those that do, often lack effective mechanisms for implementation. CSOs' roles also vary across regions. We highlight ways in which civil society can engage with RECs to help advance democracy regionally. We hope you enjoy reading this paper and look forward to receiving any comments, feedback or suggestions you may have. ?? Hello friends, the global #OpenGovWeek is here. Subnational governance reforms in Nigeria received a tremendous boost in the last few years with the States Fiscal Transparency and Accountability Program-for-Results (SFTAS PforR). Simultaneously , states witnessed improved uptake and implementation of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). As SFTAS ended, however, and several states came under new administrations in 2023, it appears that many of the reforms are facing a real risk of being rolled back. This is particularly true in the Niger Delta where the quantum of fiscal flows appear not to match the openness on the ground. What can be done to sustain the results of SFTAS especially in the Niger Delta? How can states in the region leverage the gains of SFTAS to achieve a leap in OGP implementation? Join us as we mark the #OpenGovWeek with this conversation on X Spaces (formerlyTwitter) @PolicyAlert. #OpenGovWeek2024 #OpenNigerDelta #opengov The RootHub Open Government Partnership West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, BudgIT Nigeria SPACES FOR CHANGE Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN)
