SimpleCitizen recently partnered with a group of government, non-profit and local service organizations to help new arrivals complete employment authorization documents. Our software helped eligible attendees self-generate their immigration forms, while volunteer attorneys and accredited DOJ representatives reviewed them for legal accuracy. To me, this is a partnership that demonstrates what scalable access to justice solutions can look like when you bring together for-profit tech businesses, legal aid providers and community organizations to solve urgent problems. Helping attorneys get more leads.

Just absolutely amazing and so happy to see that finally we begin to see good stories come out instead of all the negative. There is yet hope - false accusations of #blasphemy has become a norm and the statistics state that nearly 90% of all blasphemy cases registered in the history of Pakistan happened from 2005 during the so-called Musharraf liberal era. Question is why? It wasn't during the 1980s Ziaul Haq reforms that people often blame, there is another reasoning that I think connects to America's 9/11 more than people know of. Trying to distance itself from Taliban and Deobandi school of thought, the State propped up support for the Barelvi school of thought to counter the Deobandi school to taper Taliban influence but they were more sensitive to the blasphemy issue. From there it was inflamed and impassioned to give the Barelvi school an upper hand via support of the State that now has gotten out of hand and has back fired in many ways. To navigate this challenging space with threats is a commendable action by my brother vishal shakir. He is no different then the constable who saved that woman wearing a dress with Arabic lettering from the marketplace or many others who stood up against the over zealous public who don't take time to evaluate the charges or claims which are against the norms and ethics of Islam. Just because someone is accused of something doesn't mean they are guilty of it. The concept of registering a fake FIR is a norm in police abuse that people use and this is one of those. There is a command in the Quran that when someone comes bearing news - verify it before you have remorse from an ill-thought tempered action that harms innocent people: "O YOU who have attained to faith! If any iniquitous person comes to you with any news, verify it, so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done." (Surah 49:Verse 6)

Honoring Leo Vinton Butts Leo Vinton Butts was the first African-American graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and the first African-American to play for the UW varsity football team. A World War I veteran and activist, Butts later owned and operated a pharmacy and, in his UW Ph.D. thesis, was one of the first to document the history of African-Americans in pharmacy.
