Club ball in college?? …. I’ve recently been seeing several parents talking about their kids playing ‘club’ ball in college, these are some of the same kids that played club/travel ball in high school and played for their school teams too. They were some of the lucky to have the necessary means to get that luxury (money, time, and skills). What used to be labeled intramural sports in college has been rebranded as club ball. These universities and colleges saw an opportunity and decided they needed to P?I?V?O?T the way things were being done. Studies show that academic success is higher when students are involved in an activity, such as playing a sport. In my last facility, I was privileged to be able to host a Men’s College Volleyball Regional event. It was amazing to watch these very competitive and athletic players show their skills in a format that most might not have been able to if their school had chosen to not offer the option of club sports. Often, in sports there is a trickle down effect … it’s coming with NIL but high schools need to start looking at the way they offer athletic programming. I understand that some schools do not have the numbers to field multiple programs of the same sport, however many do. Many times the bigger schools that have those numbers would benefit from offering additional opportunities for their student body since the involvement in activities often lead to higher academic success. Developing partnerships between the community and the schools they support is crucial for not only the school spirit and driving a common community bond but also for the future of the youth within those walls. #youthsports #opportunities #womeninsports #communities

Thrilled to share the official launch of the 'Oakland Coach Academy' by Oakland Roots Sports Club. The program aims to break #barriers for underserved youth in soccer by increasing coach development and maintaining high-quality instruction for student athletes. The Academy, in partnership with Oakland Unified School District's #ExpandedLearning initiatives, will provide official coaching qualification by #CalNorthYouthSoccer as well as training from #PositiveCoachingAlliance covering topics like empathy, trauma sensitivity, and anti-racism. According to research, the shortage of local, qualified coaches from diverse backgrounds is a significant obstacle to participation, with girls being particularly affected. In Oakland, only 9% of girls meet the CDC's recommended daily physical activity level. #OaklandCoachAcademy is providing a solution to this challenge by offering technical skills for inclusive instruction and social and emotional intelligence training for underserved communities. As Chris Busey, Ph.D., United Soccer League (USL) shared, "This is a model for how the broader soccer ecosystem can address the lack of coaching diversity – a global issue – with local relevance and impact as the driving force." ?? However, one critical aspect often overlooked is the state of township school's sports field. A study i conducted delved into the impact of a derelict school sports field on our learners and the wider community. The findings were eye-opening: it became clear that the condition of this space may have a significant impact not only on academic performance but also emotional and physical well-being. To truly foster holistic education, we need to address this issue head-on. That's why I'm reaching out to LinkedIn network for support. I believe that by rallying together, we can make positive modifications to our sports field and, in turn, enhance the educational experience for all our learners. Every child is born with a flair for one or more sports. . I remember when I was much younger, I usually love to run, and later in my junior class(JSS 2), I started representing my school, which was all girls' school in running. . I left the school to another after my Junior QAEC, and I discovered I picked interest in basketball. . I would play with my brothers at home since we had a court, but I never thought of the need to represent my school. . I was focused on studying, but I never missed watching other students play and I truly wished I kept on with a particular sports because seeing others win medals, bring home championship cups and trophies, and still saw how well they did in their academics, some where top of their classes, made more sense to me. . Sports stimulate the child's brain in ways you may not have imagined. . Sports is education disguised as play. . Parents should understand that allowing your child to get involved in sports brings a balance between play and academics. . Some children may become professionals in sports, not in academics. .
