?? Research note of the WEEK! ?? Philanthropic foundations in the global policy arena? ? ?? This article offers a critical examination of how foundations shape global policy and introduces a theoretical framework to analyse their influence in this domain. The key question can be expressed as follows: ‘How do philanthropic foundations influence the global policy arena?’ The authors conclude that the work of foundations in the global policy arena, which is fluid but influential, dampens the influence of external. This should remind scholars of the relevance of exploring the potential promises and problems of philanthropy’s role in policy shaping.? ? ? Spot on. The merging of Social Value and Foresight...this is one of the underlying frameworks of my emerging theory of #LegacyPlanning. Think big, think bold, think solutions and think about your postive legacy on the grandest scale. If we applied and leveraged this within private philanthropic endeavours, under the model of Social Value, then we could unlock civic resilience with a much more resilient society. Well done, again... Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies

“Philanthropy practitioners, institutions and the sector at large are questioning themselves and their practices, continuing to learn and exchange ideas on how they can do better. The transformation agenda is the result of an ongoing quest to be better and do better. To help clarify what that means in practice, we have identified ten key principles to guide philanthropy’s transformation.” Principles – Wings

Thanks to the Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association team for such a fabulously-run #PhileaForum2024! Focused on “Trust & Philanthropy” this year, I came away from the week inspired – and cautiously optimistic – about the way #Foundation leaders are starting to change the narratives about their work. Now's the time to put our actions where the intentions are! Some of my personal highlights were: ? The opening keynote about #MoralAmbition – and a call for philanthropy to focus on issues that are important, neglected, and tractable. That’s #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment for you!?Rutger Bregman ?? A session about Future-Oriented Ecosystems – and the need for more relational infrastructure to support the ‘over-inspired and under-resourced’ changemakers in local communities Alina Porumb, PhD Delphine Moralis Markus Lux Hanna St?hle - https://lnkd.in/e9BWNxVn ?? Hearing about an international mental health initiative for young people, established through #Multistakeholder #Collaboration – and how much perseverance, resource, and trust was required to build the ecosystem Fondation Botnar Learning for Well-being Foundation Mieke Visser-Schuurman Ciaran O'Donnell Anette Stein Sandeep Bhamra, CAIA ?? A thoughtful panel on the importance of #NarrativePower, and how it's a condition precedent for systems change. Most impactful for me was a question about *who* gets to dream, and *who* is given the space for radical imagination? Great article here about some practical things funders can do: https://lnkd.in/eetJRCnZ?Virginia Ruan Isabel Crabtree-Condor Abi Knipe Mandy Van Deven Lucy Blythe ?? Hearing about shifts away from annual reporting towards #Learning, while still supporting evidence gathering and #storytelling Elisabeth Wilmer Porticus Throughout, there were some stand-out quotes that really resonated: #Collaboration should be our starting point, not the end goal #Time is our most precious resource, a luxury that creates space for innovation and long-term thinking How hard #trust is to build, and how easy it is to lose We need to move away from restricted support, towards #unconditional love and putting people in charge
