NAYPW sprung from our work in the Columbia River. I remember co-facilitating the first #youth centering version of the #bluepeace index in 2020. Four years later--NAYPW is still a voice for intergenerational inclusion in the Basin, even as our current leadership is gearing up to pass the baton to the next rising tide of #youth4water. From the first adapted Blue Peace Index workshop, to the Columbia Youth Forums, and the work by Kate Brown Henry Pitts and @Rheanne Kroschinsky for the One River Ethics Matter conference, I hope the Columbia River will continue to be a place the stands out for youth inclusion in planning for our shared #waterfuture. Our work getting recognized by allies like Emily Lorra Hines and FLOW is also an important part of intergenerational water planning! Youth need allies like this, along with Dr. Joanne M. Taylor and so many others who have supported youth access and representation at this important time in the Basin. Curious about how youth can take action for in local waters, or how you can be an ally for intergenerational water planning? Check out NAYPW's special project, the Youth Act! Director of the Forum for Leadership on Water (FLOW) | Water Nerd and Environmental Activist with a love of communications
Yesterday I had the honour to testify on the ENVI committee freshwater study, as a guest of Laurel Collins. It was an incredible experience, and I was lucky to share the stage with FLOW members Merrell-Ann Phare and Bob Sandford. In addition to Dr. Kaveh Madani and Chandra Madramootoo. I am most proud that I was able to bring attention to the incredible work youth are contributing to the water sector around the world, including: Onewater North American Youth Parliament for Water Water Youth Network Waterlution Canada Groundwater Youth Network (GWYN) I have and continue to work with these groups in some capacity and cannot stress enough the innovation, passion for change and action coming out of them. Back to Toronto now following this uplifting day.

Great to see this paper on the fit(ness) of water governance institutions published now! My favorite 'ingredient' is the prominence of anticipatory and transformative capacity. From direct observation I can say that this is also working in practice - how about more case examples, how would you explore the fitness of water governance institutions?
Associate Professor and Deputy Science Director at Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University
Do precipitation-sheds align with participation-sheds in decision-making?New paper dropped! Two decades after the world’s water crisis was recognized as a crisis of governance, where are we at? And how well are governance bodies able to grapple with the ways that (some) humans are changing water systems in globally significant ways?? In this review, we cover a lot of ground, documenting what global level changes are being documented in water science, and the implications for those as communities around the world work to ensure governance re-centres local and Indigenous autonomy, includes those who are currently marginalized in decision-making, and ensures access to water for the varied needs that humans and non-humans have. Pathetic, Pathetic, Pathetic! Ensuring ongoing harm and continued Environmental Racist activities, with little Action! Manitoba Hydro adds yet another monitoring program, much delayed like the Coordinated Aquatic Monitoring Program (CAMP), this time with further limits & continued barriers to deal with what they already know! Limiting communities to MB Hydro "approved" short term small projects, "up to $125,000" per community, 1-2 consultants would gobble that up in a short period of time. Only to say, "you can't draw any conclusions, more study is need". Big Fat Deal! Disgusting this ongoing Environmental Racism, apparently supported by Manitoba. Shame on You! Manitoba Hydro and Manitoba have known for Decades the destruction of their projects like the Churchill River Diversion that include massive, ongoing and avoidable Erosion, which destroys shoreline, riparian zones and fish habitat. Manitoba has allowed MB Hydro to operate outside of their 1973 CRD Interim Licence since 1979 to 2021. We are being monitored to DEATH! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/girfCytX

Monday reading! I’m pleased to share our latest publication “Water is more than a resource: Indigenous Peoples and the right to water” coauthored with Levi Adelman, Luisa Castaneda-Quintana (she/her) and Dario Mejia Montalvo. In this paper we reflect on 1) the values that #IndigenousPeoples hold about #water in contrast to the dominant narrative that commodifies water; 2) how Indigenous Peoples' perspectives and values are neglected in water policy processes and why a rights-based perspective is necessary; 3) and the need to redistribute power to achieve social justice and not leave anyone behind. We use the example of the #WaterActionDecade and #WaterConference2023 to highlight some of the challenges experienced by #IndigenousPeoples to have a seat at the table and, most importantly, to have their perspectives included. #weareindigenous #watersecurity #watersovereingty #sdgs2030 #righttowater https://lnkd.in/ef3i_7Z3
