World Environmental Health Day – a reminder that our health and that of our planet are connected. Microplastics from plastic waste pollute our oceans, harm our wildlife and have been detected within human bloodstreams and bodily systems. We have no idea what the long-term consequences are for our health, but we do know that the particles are already harming the planet. By reducing plastic waste (a large amount of that stemming from packaging waste), we can save entire ecosystems and make sure we don’t compound damage to humankind. The theme for this year’s World Environmental Health Day, "Environmental Health: Creating Resilient Communities through Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation", also shows that our work directly affects communities and humankind.
