?? The CyberUp Campaign welcomes Russell Group of Universities' manifesto recommendation for the next government to introduce a UK Research Security Fund to boost university efforts to counter foreign interference and enhance UK resilience. Read their recommendations here ----> https://lnkd.in/e3A5HHbi ?? Over the past few years, we have consulted with several academics in the cybersecurity field who have repeatedly stressed that the Computer Misuse Act 1990 impacts their ability to pursue important research to counter such instances of interference and to upgrade UK resilience. ?? The next government must reform the outdated Computer Misuse Act so that cybersecurity professionals can conduct their research without fear of prosecution. ?? In consultation with academics and legal experts, the CyberUp Campaign has drafted a ‘statutory defence’ framework to set out how this reform would work, which we are urging the next government to adopt. ?? Have you ever thought about the link between cybersecurity and?sustainability? I have been thinking a lot about the link between sustainability and cybersecurity, and luckily, I came across this intriguing article by CyberQ Group and the World Wide Generation. It explores the unexpected yet important link between sustainability and cybersecurity. It's fascinating how both fields require us to think in terms of interconnected systems and resilience. For the first time, the new version of ISO 27001, 2023, includes a small piece on sustainability, which I found very interesting. The obvious takeaway is the idea of interconnected systems and resilience. Both sustainability and cybersecurity require a whole-system approach where every part relies on the others and needs to be ready for various disruptions. The key message here is about building resilience on multiple levels. In cyberspace, resilience involves reliable procedures and the human element. Just like sustainable practices need to handle environmental pressures, cybersecurity measures must be able to deal with changing threats. One thing you have heard us talk a lot about is the need for collaboration. The best sustainability and cybersecurity efforts come from teamwork across various industries. No single organisation can tackle these challenges alone. Public-private partnerships, industry collaboration, and working together across disciplines are the way to go. Combining sustainability and cybersecurity is a smart, forward-thinking strategy for the future of business operations. By integrating these approaches, companies can safeguard their assets while also contributing to a more sustainable future. For a deeper dive into how cybersecurity supports sustainability goals, check out the full article below.

After reading this article, I started reflecting on my time at USC’s Marshall School of Business Global Supply Chain Management Program (MSGSCM). A few specific topics within our programs curriculum is the Hard and Soft Infrastructure, along with Geopolitics, and its importance to not only day to day life, but the global supply chain as well. Being involved in the global food industry supply chain, Geopolitics and infrastructure have been at the forefront of making any long term strategic decisions. It is a very important factor in the functionality of many international operators. This article was very thought provoking. I’m very thankful for the emphasis that is placed on these topics at the Randall R. Kendrick Global Supply Chain Institute, and to have been a part of it. The Global Risks Report 2025 from the World Economic Forum highlights a critical shift in global threats, with state-based armed conflict emerging as the most pressing short-term risk. However, #cyber risks - including cyber warfare, espionage, and systemic threats to critical infrastructure - continue to escalate, deeply intertwined with geopolitical instability. The increasing sophistication of cyber threats demands a proactive and resilient approach to security. Organizations must prioritize: ? Strengthening cyber resilience through robust defense mechanisms ? Enhancing threat intelligence to anticipate and mitigate evolving risks ? Investing in cybersecurity awareness to combat disinformation and social engineering Cyber risks are no longer just an IT issue - they are a business, economic, and geopolitical concern. Addressing them requires collaboration between public and private sectors, continuous innovation, and a security-first mindset. The future of cybersecurity will be shaped not just by technology but by how we anticipate, adapt, and respond to an ever-changing risk landscape. #CyberSecurity #GlobalRisks #WEF2025 #RiskManagement

To be a successful academic in the modern digital economy you have to be great at #partnerships and #businessdevelopment. But very often academics do not know how to engage with public and private sector stakeholders. Next week you have a chance to find out how this could be done. I am so excited! I will be moderating Panel Three at the James Martin Institute for Public Policy Policymaker Summit 2024! The panel, titled "Leveraging #Partnerships for Future-Ready #Infrastructure," will take place on Friday, August 2, at UNSW in Sydney. This panel will delve into the vital role of partnerships in driving infrastructure developments to meet evolving societal needs, harness technological advancements, and tackle environmental challenges. With distinguished panelists such as Anthony Lean, Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water; Sonya Campbell, Deputy Secretary for Commercial in NSW Treasury; and Associate Professor Amelia Thorpe from UNSW, we will explore strategies to integrate community expertise, enhance disaster resilience, and secure funding for long-term #infrastructure projects. Join us as we discuss how to build a more prosperous, #inclusive, and future-oriented economy through innovative infrastructure solutions. I look forward to engaging in this crucial conversation and sharing insights with industry leaders and policymakers. My team from AI and Cyber Futures Institute I will be onsite during the event.
