Our logo features the Adinkra symbol "Boa Me Na Me Mmoa Wo," which translates to "Help me and let me help you." This powerful symbol represents the core principle of the The Link Minority GA Chamber: unity is strength. ?? Interdependence: The symbol is made of two triangles, each missing a piece that the other possesses. This represents the idea that minority-owned businesses need each other and the resources of the chamber to succeed. ?? Connection: Just like our name, "The Link," the word "link," emphasizes our mission to connect minority businesses with opportunity, education, and a voice in the community. ? The topic of my presentation was Networking Doesn't Have to be Scary. I shared my tips of getting over fears related to networking. Turned out that there were several other women in the room who shared some of my concerns about networking, and I was able to give them helpful tips and strategies. 2?? ?????????????? ???? ?????????? ????????????. Not only did I speak at the meeting, I also was a sponsor! I promoted my ???????????????? ?????? ????????-???????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????????????????? Program. 3?? ???????????????? ??????????????????. I scheduled an ???????????? ???????? ?????????? ???????????????? for the fall with a Girl Scout troop! 4?? ?????????????? ???? ??????????????. As founders we can become obsessed with the usual metrics - growth, cash flow, click through rates. But it turns out one of the biggest honors of my career so far - inclusion in the Inc. Magazine Female Founders 250 List - is being awarded this month recognizing our work at TribeTokes giving back - something we do on the side and most don’t even know about. There were times I would cry reading the applications for our Pot Luck Program (or reading the thank you notes that would come back months later). People are really suffering and cannabis is really helping them. More here => https://lnkd.in/ekv6t-VF In 2020 we reached a point where we could donate corporate profits to a cause. I began sending 1% of sales to a charity, but felt so disconnected from it, and decided I’d rather put resources into something we had more control over, where we could make sure we’re making a difference, and make sure our hard earned resources were getting to the people that need it. *Link to my TEDx talk below* In my experience working in the nonprofit space and growing up Black in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve observed that we are often incentivized to embrace narratives about ourselves rooted in deficiency and scarcity. Although our community has achieved countless wins and accomplishments, these stories aren’t highlighted nearly as much as our shortcomings by way of systematic prejudice & discrimination. Our good news rarely makes headlines, and our brilliance doesn’t attract the same funding or visibility for our foundations, nonprofits, and businesses. As a result, these successes are often left out of our shared narrative. This gap has an unintended consequence: we tend to forget the resilience and achievements of our community. Our children are growing up unaware of the legacy and sacrifices their grandparents made to secure the lives they live today. Many of us, as adults, have only a limited understanding of the challenges our great-grandparents overcame to create the opportunities we now enjoy. While there’s much we want to change, it’s essential to remember the strength and brilliance that define us. We’re still here, still thriving, still doing remarkable things. There are greater things that many of us talk ourselves out of doing, because we identify with and internalize half of the truth. It’s on us to break the spell and make new agreements about ourselves and our communities. Agreements based on the whole truth. We are unconditioned and unlimited in our creative capacity. In June 2021, to mark California's reopening, we hosted "REBIRTH," a dynamic industry event that spanned all 50,000 square feet of Ciel Creative Space. Our mission was clear: reunite the community after over a year of isolation. A major focus of REBIRTH was supporting local businesses that had suffered tremendous losses during the shelter-in-place orders. Partnering with a local, woman-of-color-owned event agency, Make it Mariko, we brought together dozens of local businesses, artists, caterers, musicians, and more to breathe life back into the space.
