One effective way to bridge the skills gap in construction - tap into a broader talent pool and make a positive impact on someone’s life! Having worked in prison and probation in a previous life....I can honesty say that there are so many people who have the potential to succeed - if only they were understood and given the chance. Many young offenders lack the support and stability they need, often through no fault of their own. Think about where you would be today without the support, guidance, and opportunities you received. How did you achieve your current success? Are you now in a position to mentor and train someone to become the next 'you' in construction by offering them an apprenticeship to start their career? There is a huge amount of funding and support available to you and your business too....all you need to do is ask! ?? [email protected] ?? 07442 653 886 #cerirushjones
Ky Shaw’s life was heading in one direction and that was to prison. The 20-year-old has now turned his life around after securing an apprenticeship while building one of Birmingham’s newest skyscrapers. "I got myself into trouble with the police and that was when I realised this was not the way forward," said Ky, from Dudley. "Securing a plumbing apprenticeship really is a dream for me and I believe that getting on this pathway has kept me out of prison. "In the future I want to upskill further, become a project manager or supervisor and hopefully one day have my own construction business. "The only way is up now." The WMCA awarded £100,000 of its adult skills budget to John Sisk & Son Ltd to run the Skills Centre hub at the Great Charles Street site, offering local people free construction training and a guaranteed job interview at the end of the 20-day course.

Great to see the Mayor of the West Midlands visit the Great Charles Street Development in Birmingham and hear about the work Moda is doing to support apprenticeships! ? When Precede Capital Partners provided a £188 million whole-loan facility to a joint venture between Apache Capital, Harrison Street and NFU Mutual for this build-to-rent development in 2023, we knew that the development would bring major benefits to the surrounding community. Redeveloping an abandoned car park in Birmingham’s city centre, Great Charles Street is not only transforming this disused space into essential new housing but also providing key opportunities for vocational development for local people. The scheme involves a fantastic work experience programme for trainees and is a prime example of how the real estate industry can deliver considerable social value. Moda is working with West Midlands Combined Authority and John Sisk & Son Ltd to roll out the programme. ? #Housing #UK #Skills

Joel's Journey: Creating Futures, One Apprentice at a Time He’s worked hard to get here—blocking out the noise, staying focused, and following his own path. It’s a story of grit and resilience. And it’s exactly the kind of story that keeps us going. At Kiely Plumbing, we’ve seen over 100 stories like Joel’s in the past 55 years. Right now, there are 10 apprentices on our team, each bringing curiosity, courage, and the willingness to learn. But here’s the thing: this isn’t about plumbing. It’s about possibility. Apprenticeships are more than just a foot in the door—they’re a leap toward building something meaningful. They’re proof that when we create opportunities, we build futures. And when we invest in people, the return is extraordinary. Joel’s journey is just beginning, but it serves as a reminder of what’s possible when someone is given a chance—and when they’re ready to take it. The question isn’t just, “Who will we help next?” The real question is, “Who can we inspire to help someone else?” #MakeItMatter #PlumbingWithPurpose #ThePowerOfOpportunity
