This article is a terrific call-out. As someone who’s consulted for a few Black beauty brands, I’ve noticed that the industry often conflated two distinct propositions: brands founded by Black founders (not Black centered) and brands for Black consumers (founded by Black founders). This muddied the narrative and sometimes reduced the conversation to surface-level representation rather than a deeper dive into market potential. Too often, the focus shifted to traditional financial metrics, like scalability or EBITDA, without fully appreciating the cultural nuance and market opportunity these brands represent. If you are a women in sales you want to hear this… regardless of what product you are selling…. Lotions, Potions, Logistics, Trucking or even coaching…. You need Marketing Skills. Why you may ask? Marketing is not posting about your products. Marketing is basically the process of getting people interested in what you have to offer, whether it's a product, service, or idea. Think of it like telling the world about something you believe can help them or improve their life, and doing it in a way that grabs their attention. To do that you first have to believe in your offer. You have to be willing to proclaim it loud and proud with the risk of others disagreeing with you, judging you and even laughing at you behind your back. All you women in male dominated industries will know this fear…. What will they think about me? Do I sound stupid? So many insecurities. That’s scary…… especially when you don’t have the skills to be confident within your own believe system ….. when you don’t know your own values, trust your own skills and have a circle of support around you. But let me tell you….. CONFIDENCE IS A SKILL…..
