Congratulations to ?rsted for putting online the 130 MW South Fork Wind project! This is the first #offshorewind project in the United States larger than 100 MW, and a huge step forward for the entire industry. Building something of this scale is no small feat. Orsted has believed in the offshore wind industry in the United States even when it got hard, and put their money where their mouths are. I'm glad to see it paying off. Here's what we've done to date for offshore wind in the United States: Block Island (RI, 2016): 30 MW CVOW (VA, 2020): 12 MW South Fork Wind (NY, 2024): 130 MW Of course, the 800 MW Vineyard Wind is also under construction, and the first turbines are already delivering power to Massachusetts. Last I checked this should be fully online by the end of the year. And after that, there are dozens of gigawatts of offshore wind farms in various stages of approval/pre-construction activities. #energytransition #climatecrisis https://lnkd.in/e6eyc7V4

This initiative involves deploying floating turbines off the central and northern coasts, providing a consistent and reliable source of clean electricity. The plan supports California's 100% clean energy goals and is expected to create thousands of jobs in manufacturing, maintenance, and supply chain development. ???? Read the article in the American Journal of Transportation, “New funding propels Pier Wind at Port of Long Beach”—November 14, 2024. “The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Monday strengthened its commitment to help California reach its renewable energy goals by taking a pair of actions to advance Pier Wind, a proposed 400-acre terminal at the Port of Long Beach to assemble and deploy floating offshore wind turbines. Taken together, the approvals are aimed at attracting outside funding and authorization to build Pier Wind, which would be the largest facility of its kind in the United States. ‘Pier Wind will contribute to creating a reliable electric grid that will enhance air quality and energy resilience, reduce California’s reliance on fossil fuels and help power the Port’s ongoing transition to zero-emissions equipment and vehicles,’ said Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero… The Harbor Commission’s approvals come the week after California voters authorized Proposition 4, also known as the Climate Bond, which sets aside $475 million for port infrastructure projects connected to offshore wind development.
