For change to last, you need to include the community in decision-making because when evaluators, researchers, and funders are gone the community will remain. This is why participatory approaches to community change have become so popular. While it’s harder to do, it’s how lasting change happens. The issue for us is to figure out how to use limited resources to really leverage community members’ knowledge and support. One way to do this is to engage organizations that already have community support in change efforts through collaboratives or coalitions. This is helpful because community-focused organizations will know when it’s appropriate to call on the community and can make strategic decisions about what is being asked of community members. #evaluation #nonprofit #capacityBuilding
