For a long time, I have been saying the solution to the worker shortage will necessitate action from a variety of stakeholders—industry, academia, government, and more. In many areas, we are beginning to see action aimed at spurring students to consider careers in the trades. So today let’s look at one example from Kentucky. For context on my previous post. This week I will be: -Giving evidence to the House of Commons Work and Pensions Committee on Carers Allowance and young carers. What timing! Here I will be highlighting the inequalities in being a young carer in the UK, and the impacts those have on important transitions in life e.g. accessing higher education and work. Will be talking about research funded by the Nuffield Foundation and ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council -Giving the St George's, University of London university seminar on inequalities on becoming and being a young carer in the UK. Again I will be talking about research mentioned above but reflecting on what universities (and particularly ours) can do to better support young carers -Submitting evidence to the current APPG on young carers inquiry into the effects of the Children & Families Act 2014 and Care Act 2014. I would encourage you to do the same if you have something to say:

Good for Iowa and the industry! Agency’s practise of overcharging Facilities dependent on Medicare and Medicaid and using questionable ethics to poach our employees needs to be gutted….. “The bill joins a small but growing tide of similar bills around the US, including at least 11 proposed state measures, that were under consideration in 2023. Regardless of this bill’s future success, Iowa’s state government has taken long-term care funding seriously in recent years — passing $15 million in new funding in 2023. By some metrics, the state is already the best in the nation for eldercare.” It would be nice if another “I” state, like Idaho, exhibited this type of concern for eldercare and our seniors…… #skillednursing #longtermcare
Way to go, Iowa!

???Empowering the Blind Community: The Randolph-Sheppard Act & Its Implementation in Colorado Hello everyone! ?? Today, let’s talk about a powerful law that’s been transforming lives for decades - The Randolph-Sheppard Act, 20 U.S.C. § 107 et seq.,. ?? Enacted in 1936, this federal law prioritizes blind individuals to operate vending facilities on Federal property. It’s a significant step towards providing remunerative employment, enlarging economic opportunities, and stimulating self-supporting efforts among the blind. In the beautiful state of Colorado, we’ve adopted a similar law, often referred to as the mini-Randolph-Sheppard Act. Administered by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, it applies to any building, land, or other real property owned, leased, or occupied by any department or agency of the state of Colorado. The Business Enterprise Program (BEP) in Colorado awards qualified blind business people for food service operations in these buildings, plus some privately owned facilities. Why is this important? ?? Awareness of these opportunities is crucial for parents, teachers, and therapists. It allows us to support blind individuals in their journey towards self-sufficiency. For policymakers, it’s a reminder to uphold and improve these laws to further enhance the economic opportunities for the blind. Let’s continue to empower and create more opportunities for the blind community! ?? #AdvocateDad #BlindEmpowerment #RandolphSheppardAct #Colorado #Opportunities #Inclusion

This is a handy guide, especially if you're new to teaching.
?? How do the different teaching union options compare? In many ways, all the teaching unions and alternatives like Edapt have more in common than separate them in that they all have the best interests of teachers and school staff at the heart of what they do and work hard to protect their interests. However, there are some key differences in who they support, how they are structured, and what they can and cannot do; these differences include: ??Origins ??Size and Scope ??Who Can Join? ??Can members strike or call for industrial action? ??What Campaigning do they do? ??Do they have political funds or make donations by using membership fees? ??How are members supported with issues? ??Mental health support ??In-person support at disciplinary meetings ??CPD offering ??How often will I be contacted Our CEO, Alistair Wood, has recently written an article that highlights the differences mentioned above in detail - To access this in full (no details required), go to: ?? https://lnkd.in/dS_DZMej If you would like to learn more about Edapt or have any questions, you can call us at 0203 475 3998 or email us at [email protected]. ??? As voters across the country head to the polls this #ElectionDay, what they really want to see from candidates, officials, and policymakers is action to address the kitchen-table issues they actually care about. ?? We asked 1,800 registered Democrats, Republicans, and independents about 22 economic, education, and workforce policy issues based on the 2024 Democratic and Republican party platforms, current congressional bills, and JFF's own #NoDeadEnds policy priorities and other policy agendas. Regardless of the outcome of #Election2024, here are the top 6 issues that registered voters told us they want to see the next president address in his or her first 100 days in office: ?? Expanding apprenticeship programs ?? Promoting skills-based hiring ?? Providing guidance on education options that lead to family-sustaining wages ???? Creating training programs for digital skills ?? Supporting affordable alternatives to the traditional four-year college degree ?? Aligning K-12 and higher education curriculum to high-skill, high-wage, in-demand industries We at JFF believe that everyone should get the support they need to explore their learning and work options and make decisions that best match their goals and needs. That's the core tenet of our national #policy campaign, No Dead Ends. ?? What issue is most important to you when you cast your vote? Let us know in the comments.
