In the early 2000s, Blockbuster had the opportunity to innovate and embrace emerging trends, such as online rentals and streaming. However, they were slow to recognize the potential of platforms like Netflix, which started as a mail-order DVD rental service and later transitioned to streaming. Blockbuster’s attempts to compete were largely reactive and poorly executed, leading to missed opportunities. Ultimately, their reluctance to pivot from their traditional brick-and-mortar model and embrace the digital revolution contributed to their decline. By 2010, Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy, illustrating the critical importance of staying attuned to technological advancements and evolving consumer preferences.
