Generosity: A Vital Virtue in Academia Generosity is a cornerstone of a healthy academic community. Generosity is often misunderstood as a simple act of financial giving. Generosity is the sharing of information, knowledge, emotions, and time, often given freely and beyond what is expected. Academic generosity is about the willingness to give more than is required. It means going beyond the syllabus, offering deeper insights, and being available for guidance even outside regular office hours. A professor who shares time and knowledge generously not only helps students understand the material but also inspires them to think critically, fostering intellectual curiosity. For researchers, generosity means sharing of ideas, data, and resources. Knowledge should never be regarded as a personal possession. Researchers who embrace generosity will collaborate openly, enabling others to build upon their work.

Sometimes on LinkedIn, it seems like you must choose between loving or hating academia. But can LinkedIn also be a space for those in between? Thank you all for beautiful words, notes and comments on my last video, where I have explained why I am leaving ZAG. I have been reflecting on what my achievements have actually been and where the road ahead leads me. Have you ever noticed how often researchers say they are "running out of time" to write papers and books? Is it really a matter of time, or are the causes elsewhere? Some time ago I had my talents measured and it turned out that I have among the strongest "Arranger's" (Gallup CliftonStrenths) ??. It's quite true that I often find myself in the role of conductor or architect of various ventures! When I find myself in a complex situation with a million variables, I enjoy finding the right elements, information and people to make things flow. I love finding new paths, fresh connections and ever better results! ???? One thing I'm extremely proud of in the last three years: when I started leading the team at ZAG, preparing conference contributions and writing scientific papers didn't go very well for them. Today, most of the team members are much more active in this field! ??My "Arranger" has definitely been instrumental in this, as I have noticed and activated many connections that were not there before. I believe that science and research has no real value if it is not shared with people. And that's what we have achieved! ???????? I am proud of the progress made by the ZAG building physics team in this area. So, I have a question for you, people working in a research field. Earlier this semester, while teaching Research Methodology, I focused on helping students use tools like tables and mind maps to better organize and refine their research topics. Group work was essential in this process, as it encouraged them to exchange ideas, challenge one another’s thinking, and bring fresh perspectives. This collaborative approach transformed broad ideas into clear, focused research topics. It was great to see how collaboration sparked creativity and pushed everyone to think more critically about their topics. Looking forward to seeing how these projects develop as they dive deeper into their research!

Academic research tools for 2024 that can support your work.

I left the classroom , and I never looked back... Instead, I looked inward. No one talks about the guilt you carry with you once you leave the classroom. It's been two years since I made a huge decision to go, and that decision walked me into another space in education. You see- you never actually lose your connection to the classroom. It just evolves in new ways and creates new pathways. For me, being a consultant was my new pathway. Now, now- this journey has not been easy. I went from mastering the art of navigating a school building, training my body to arrive at the school at the crack of dawn, sprinting through 2 weeks of preparing my classroom, being first day ready for over 25+ kids, and leading a team of 4 educators on the grade. I connected closely with everyone from the maintenance department to the cafeteria staff. All are working to sustain the day, for whom- the children. Here I am—a consultant, a lifelong educator, an innovative thinker—having the opportunity to view education in a different way. Hi, everyone; my name is Tyiesha Hoskins.
