Joy Baker, MD, FACOG, PMH-C, C-EFM, MT(ASCP) I have the same reaction when offices insist on using BP machines; they are notorious for recording incorrect hi BP's, and most staff have no idea how to take a BP correctly (except in Cardiology offices." Best Practice: Pt has to be calm, sitting with feet on the floor, legs/ankles uncrossed, for ~5"; using a regular cuff, then take the BP. Those damn machines should be banned. I tell everyone to refuse and request "a manual cuff" in any office/UC/ER. We can stop prescribing unneeded meds.

CMS recently released the proposed rule for the fiscal year 2025 Medicare Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Long-Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System (LTCH PPS). This proposed rule includes the introduction of the Age-Friendly Hospital measure, which “seeks to ensure that hospitals are reliably implementing the '4M’s' and thus providing evidence-based elements of high-quality care for all older adults.” This measure evaluates hospitals' dedication to enhancing care for patients aged 65 and above across various hospital settings, such as the hospital ward, operating room, or emergency department.
