Recently, I came across an article discussing the state of charter schools, and it struck me how many misconceptions still exist about them. It's clear that even in 2024, there's confusion, with some still equating charter schools with private institutions. As school leaders, authorizers, alliances, coalitions, associations, and vendors, it's incumbent upon us to dispel these myths and educate the public about the reality of charter schools. The NC Association for Public Charter Schools recently shared a Storytelling Toolkit- have you seen it? At Hubrich Contracting, Inc., we're committed to supporting charter schools in navigating these misconceptions and thriving in today's educational landscape. Let's work together to ensure that the facts about charter schools are known far and wide. Advocis, stop complaining about your critics, who, BTW, are entirely valid in their criticism, and get you to act together or, better yet do us all a favour and fold. One more thing: Treat your members with the simple respect of being transparent. Case in point: Instead of hand waving away the questions about these cash-value life insurance policies that you for some reason own, by simply saying, "they are old and have performed well," maybe use it as an opportunity to be transparent and answer the obvious questions: - Whose lives are they on? - Why were they sold in the first place? - Who got paid the commissions for these? If this is innocent, you should have no issue disclosing this information. If something not above board happened here, come clean. Either way, cursory dismissals are not the way to treat your members.

To make England the best place to be a child in 2025, we need to rethink education and focus on helping young people thrive in every aspect of their lives. This means moving beyond grades and academics, and adopting a student-centered approach that prioritizes essential life skills like teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving—preparing young people for life and work. We also need to move away from a one-size-fits-all model. By tailoring support and opportunities, we can help each child discover their passions, build their strengths, and unlock their full potential. Careers education is key to this vision, providing young people with the confidence and tools to explore their future. When we invest in young people’s growth—not just as students but as individuals—we build a society where everyone thrives.
