April 18, 2024 A day that lives rent free in the hearts and minds of millions… My dear friend Tony (Named Man) Militello reminded me that yesterday was officially National High Five ??? Day. National High Five Day is a reminder that every little success in life deserves a bit of celebration, and the high five serves as a universal form of?just that - celebration. Here are five fun facts everyone should know about the High Five: 1. The origin story of the high five is up for debate, but most sophisticated scholars (I’ll self select into this category if I may) believe it originated on October 2, 1977 in downtown Los Angeles 2. Research indicates that sports teams who give the most high fives have increased performance and win a significantly higher percentage of games 3. Cats that are trained to give high fives are more adoptable (but we all know that the most adoptable cats are those who act like dogs (so we’re clear) 4. The high five is officially a universal gesture. People on every continent are doing it. In fact, one gentleman, Craig Lewis actually quit his job to high five the world. He traveled to 36 countries, high fiving his way through them all ???? 5. The path to a perfect high five (thank you Keith Mercurio) is to look at the other person’s elbow So, if you’re having an excellent week… A few well executed high fives today will make it even better. If you’re having an average week… A few energy generating high fives will help you (and others) close the week on a high note. And if you’ve had “one of those weeks.” So has someone else. They might just need a high five (and a hug) as much as anything today. The brilliance of the high five, like so many other things. Is that the getting is in the giving. So give away. When the naughty are rewarded.. Watch the ad first so I don’t spill the tea for you. As Christmas approaches, so will the wave of feel-good Christmas ads. This one has a familiar narrative that draws you into happy families preparing for Christmas, and one Grinch-like character ruining it. Then as expected, to fight or convert every villain there is a hero, in this case, a little girl. She bestows her kindness upon this angry little creature. Considering the festive context, I expected the little guy's heart to be touched and him to start participating in the festival. Instead, the next scene reveals, the kid joining him in his destruction. With the message of Myer’s - gifts for the naughty and nice. The fun plot twist conveys the message of “gifts for everyone” in a memorable way. What I loved about the ad is that instead of showing sharing joy in a very traditional “nice” way, it shows sharing joy in a “naughty way.” The villain and “hero” are a fictional character and a child, which makes their poor behavior acceptable to the audience and lowers their defenses. The ad brings childhood nostalgia, where shared naughtiness brings umpteen joy. We bond better with people who share our quirks, our weirdness, and niche tastes,? than those who like the parts of us that cater to the masses. The last disapproving look from the family feels all too familiar, the one we often got, when we had that one naughty friend, who would supposedly corrupt us forever, putting our future at risk! https://lnkd.in/gmdAqmCY #Marketing #Advertising

Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again. No one ever claimed our administrative team could sing, and honestly, that should have been enough to stop us from doing Carpool Karaoke. But did it? Of course not. Principal Cory Snider, who couldn’t hit a note if it was slapping him in the face, decided to give Back Street Boys a run for their money. Let’s say Back Street Boys can sleep easy tonight—Snider’s singing isn’t exactly the comeback they need to worry about. But hey, what we lack in vocal talent, we more than makeup for in enthusiasm (and questionable dance moves). But this isn't just about our spectacularly off-key serenade. Career Development vs Parenting Responsibility In modern UK, many women – and even some men – are still faced with the tough decision of giving up or pausing their careers to care for their young children. This is largely due to the soaring costs of childcare, which often makes it impractical for both parents to continue working. For many, the burden of these fees outweighs the benefits of career advancement, forcing families to make sacrifices in personal and professional development. As someone leading parents balancing both parenting, health and professional growth, I’m incredibly thankful for our virtual office at St John's Innovation Centre Ltd ?? Being part of a global community surrounded by exceptional business and STEAM talents has provided us with opportunities to stay connected, continue learning, and contribute to meaningful work—all while managing the demands/joy ??of family life. Having access to such a inclusive environment makes the journey a little easier.
