The thrill of victory... followed by being "the wrong Todd." I got the email every keynote speaker loves to see: "Congratulations! You've been selected as the keynote for our upcoming event in Houston!" Naturally, I did what any professional would do—I mentally prepped my speech, already started picking out a winning outfit, and maybe even did a quick celebratory fist pump. Exactly three minutes later, another email landed in my inbox. "Apologies, but there’s been a mistake. We meant to hire the other Todd." Yep. Turns out the client had two Todd speakers in the running and picked the other guy. I was the wrong Todd. In those 180 seconds, I went from keynote speaker to... well, just Todd again. I couldn’t help but laugh. I mean, how often do you lose a job to someone with the exact same name? Lesson learned: in the competitive world of public speaking, even if you're THE Todd, you might not always be THE RIGHT Todd. So if you're ever asked to keynote and your name is Todd, don’t celebrate too soon—you never know when another Todd is lurking.

Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" outlines principles for personal and professional effectiveness. They include: Be Proactive: Take initiative and responsibility for your actions. Begin with the End in Mind: Set goals and visualize outcomes before taking action. Put First Things First: Prioritize tasks based on importance, not urgency. Think Win-Win: Seek mutually beneficial solutions in interactions. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood: Listen empathetically before expressing your own ideas. Synergize: Collaborate and leverage the strengths of others. Sharpen the Saw: Continuously renew yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I haven’t read this book for quite a while, but recently picked up a new copy. I also checked out their website. They have a wide range of helpful topics and resources. Check them out at https://lnkd.in/ezYceBkB

There must be some misunderstanding. There must be some kind of mistake. “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” – George Bernard Shaw. We tend to get wrapped up so tightly in what we do, that there is a tendency to forget to effectively communicate the basics with others. Basics such as: ·????????What it is we do, in simple terms. ·????????Why we do it. ·????????How we do it. ·????????Who we prefer to work with. No amount of pleading. No programme of special offers. No offer of freebies will work to their full potential if our message hasn’t been effectively communicated. Just maybe, all these specials won’t be needed if our people are totally zoned in to our proposition. Just maybe, I’ve written this post as a reminder to myself to remain vigilant! “Effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know.” – Jim Rohn. Thank you for reading. Have a great week! #LeadGeneration #RelationshipBuilding #MarketingCommunication

???Before you share, verify. Your credibility is priceless, and a moment of diligence can save your reputation. Ensure the story you’re sharing is true to avoid the trap of spreading fake news. ?? Here’s a tip: Scrutinize the email and website of the source. Legitimate news organizations won't use Gmail accounts or non-professional domains. In the coming months, fact-checking will be crucial. If you realize you've shared a false story, don’t just delete it. Own up to it and inform your audience, ensuring they aren’t unknowingly spreading inaccuracies. This transparency reinforces your integrity and trustworthiness. Trust is the Bedrock of Every Coalition Words can inspire, but trust is forged through action. It’s the quiet consistency, the steadfast follow-through, and the intentional investment in relationships that lay the groundwork for something enduring. Whether you’re shaping a brand or leading a movement, pause and reflect: Am I fostering transactional connections, or am I cultivating trust? The answer doesn’t just influence today—it defines the legacy you leave behind. How do you build trust in your relationships or partnerships? Share your approach below— I’d love to learn from your perspective!

So few of us ever get recognized in life, and not many of us recognize others at times as well. That said, I take great pleasure in recommending a friend and professional colleague, Gregg Burkhalter, AKA The LinkedIn Guy. As much as I have known Gregg for years, I only recently came across this interview of him from 2020. I highly encourage you to watch this interview conducted of Gregg, and listen to his story of not only his very unique background, but how he brought himself to this point in life. Sometimes, I think Gregg knows more about LinkedIn than LinkedIn knows about itself. Believe it or not, Microsoft, which owns LinkedIn, asked him to do a workshop for Microsoft employees in Atlanta. How about that? If your organization is seeking a guest speaker on the topic of LinkedIn and personal branding, then Gregg is “your guy,” as he is the real deal! I have had Gregg serve as a guest speaker for an industry organization I used to belong to a few years back. Rest assured, not only is he chock full of up-to-date information and education, he is also a dynamic and energetic speaker that keeps an audience captivated. More than that, Gregg’s persona is that of a giver in life, versus a taker. Please feel free to reach out to him, as he is very approachable. Check out the You Tube video of his interview below. https://lnkd.in/eZsdn7Ru
