Qudit and mixed-dimensional #QuantumComputing provides a promising "extension" to two-dimensional qubit systems. A key element to utilize that is the capability to efficiently prepare quantum states. How we can do that has been presented today by Kevin Mato at DAC, The Chips to Systems Conference (joint work with Stefan Hillmich from the Software Competence Center Hagenberg). The teams at ParityQC and the University of Innsbruck made a significant step forward in simplifying the control of quantum computers, using the ParityQC Architecture! This advancement is detailed in the recently published paper?"Quantum Optimization with Globally Driven Neutral Atom Arrays" by Martin Lanthaler, Kilian Ender, Clemens Dlaska and Wolfgang Lechner.?The authors present a scalable encoding for solving complex combinatorial optimization problems with global laser addressing. This invention tackles one of the key challenges for neutral-atom quantum computers: qubit control. In current schemes, maintaining a precise control over individual atoms required multiple laser fields, leading to increased hardware complexity and operational challenges. The team now demonstrates that it is possible to encode problems in a quantum computer without individual addressing, using only a single global laser detuning. Bob and his team have done a huge amount to reframe quantum physics, beginning 20 years ago by developing a mathematically rigorous formal method for understanding quantum mechanics using pictures. ZX-calculus is now widely used among quantum computing professionals, and one of the glorious side-effects is that it makes quantum theory and quantum computing more accessible to non-experts (like me!). It’s a wonderful example of building public understanding for #WorldQuantumDay
