New eye tracking controlled Virtual Reality system enhances MRI scans for young children: ??Researchers at King's College London developed a VR system with eye-tracking technology to help children stay still during MRI scans. The VR system calms children by engaging them in immersive virtual reality experiences, aiming to mitigate their tendency to move during scans. ??Children are less likely to remain still inside the MRI scanner due to the machine's large size and loud noises, often requiring sedation or general anesthesia to obtain clear images. The eye-tracking technology enables gaze-based human-computer interaction (HCI), allowing children to watch videos or play games using only their eyes. ??Unlike existing gaze-based HCI systems, which need adjustments before each session, this solution requires no set up and offers immediate interaction and user control. Children can initiate actions like starting a game or watching a video by holding their gaze on items on the screen and the more the child interacts, the more accurate the gaze estimation becomes ??The method was successfully tested on 23 children aged 2 to 13, showing promise in keeping children engaged and reducing movement during MRI scans. The VR system is designed to reduce head movement, but as complete elimination is impossible, it is combined with a tool that retrospectively performs motion correction on scans ??Essentially the integration of this technology will enhance the experience of children undergoing an MRI, reducing anxiety and enabling scans to be performed without sedatives or anaesthesia ??Links to articles in comments below?

Most studies reported significant improvements in rehabilitation outcomes, suggesting that immersive VR is a valuable tool for upper extremity rehabilitation. It offers personalized and intensive training. By leveraging this technology, researchers and rehabilitation specialists can design more tailored and patient-centric strategies, ultimately improving functional outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with neurological diseases. Title: "The Effect of VR on Fine Motor Performance by Older Adults: A Comparison Between Real and Virtual Tasks" ?? In this study, we explored how Virtual Reality (VR) technology impacts fine motor skills in older adults, comparing real-life tasks to their VR replicas. Our findings reveal a significant learning curve for older adults using VR systems, and participants rating VR tasks as more mentally and physically demanding compared to real-life tasks. Our research highlights the importance of considering the learning effects of VR systems when evaluating fine motor performance in older adults. This study is a step forward in understanding how VR can support the replication of real-life tasks. ???
