By the mid-2000s, Baghdad, Iraq could no longer be home for Public Housing resident, Ayad Kaisi. Due to his work as an interpreter for U.S. military forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was a potential target for Iraqi forces. Kaisi then found a path to a new and safe start in life in San Antonio. Read more about his inspiring story: https://lnkd.in/gHs-zDg7 #opportunityhomesanantonio #alliancetohouseeveryone

Collateral damage? Stop this madness! Peace Please! Israel could actually "easily" follow the gist of the UNSC and the ICJ decisions by creating a humanitarian solution which nevertheless includes achieving its military goal of fully dismantling Hamas. If Israel would open its borders and create Blue Helmets/UN peace force controlled, UNHCR managed, refugee facilities in Israel, it could dismantle all military infrastructure in Gaza without causing any further civilian collateral damage. At the same time would the (disarmed) Gazans have a stable very safe zone to go to with a high likelihood to be able to return home if Gaza becomes inhabitable again (currently it is no longer). Finally, by involving the international community, a starting point for co-existence as equals could be created. www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo
The Israeli army’s chief of general staff, Herzi Halevi, has reportedly sacked two top army commanders who were linked to a deadly strike on a convoy of World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers in Gaza. Halevi dismissed the commander of the Nahal Brigade – one of the army’s main infantry brigades – and another senior commander within the same brigade, the Anadolu news agency reported, citing Israel’s Channel 14. https://lnkd.in/ef83p8KN

Last week, I was able to speak with Minister Alistair Carns, Minister for Veterans and People, on the reform needed so Commonwealth and overseas troops can become more economically inclusive in Britain after giving their service. His first impression when I handed him a copy of my new book OP: BELONGING - When Did Britain Stop Seeing Us as a Band of Brothers? was, 'I really like it. You guys served equally, just like me'. I look forward to working closely with the team and engaging in those difficult and much-needed constructive conversations on how everyone who served the crown can be less discriminated against when it comes to career transition. When a Commonwealth or overseas personnel give their service to Britain, it is an act of servitude that comes with a responsibility for both parties and if not respected, can solve in the lack of trust in the system for many generations. Career transition and integration into British society are vital responsibilities. Understanding each individual's background is essential to support Commonwealth and Overseas service leavers effectively. Over the next three months, Op Belonging will focus on helping organisations recognise the cultural backgrounds of these individuals, shaped by their ethnicities and military experiences. A key principle is that a service member's background significantly influences their career transition. Integration is not uniform; it requires a personalised approach, emphasising individual experiences and community connections. If you're curious about the complexities faced by Commonwealth and Overseas troops and veterans in Britain, I highly recommend reading "OP: BELONGING." I wrote it not just for others but to help myself understand these challenges as a Commonwealth citizen in the UK. It's important for me to grasp these issues so I can explain them to my daughters and the many first-generation children growing up here. I intend to build a community of like-minded people with similar goals. I aim to build knowledge and wealth and share it with my community. Let's talk about these ten questions: 1. What are the housing options available for military families on Oahu? 2. How does the cost of living in Oahu compare to other duty stations? 3. What are the transportation options for getting around the island, especially for commuting to and from base? 4. What recreational activities and amenities are available for military personnel and their families on the island? 5. What educational opportunities are available for military children on Oahu? 6. How does the climate and weather on Oahu differ from other duty stations, and what preparations should be made? 7. What healthcare facilities and services are available for military personnel and their families on Oahu? 8. Are there any specific cultural considerations or customs to be aware of when living on Oahu? 9. What support services are the military and local community providing for transitioning in or out of Oahu? 10. What resources are available for military spouses seeking employment or educational opportunities on Oahu?

?? #DoNotThankMe?#HireMilitarySpouses This is beautifully written - take a moment to read it, and let Lori McAlexander, MBA know how #CareerForward #HOH can connect you with exceptionally skilled military spouse talent!
??? This Friday, May 10th, the US will honor military spouses like me for Military Spouse Appreciation Day. ?? And this year, please DO NOT thank me for my service. ?? Instead I urge you to take action on an issue that demands our attention: ?? MILITARY SPOUSE UNEMPLOYMENT ?? ?? Despite our valuable skills, talents, resilience, creativity and experiences, over 20% of military spouses continue to face unemployment—a statistic that has INFURIATINGLY remained largely unchanged for the past decade (while veteran unemployment is at historic lows!). ?? More than half of American families operate on two incomes - including mine and probably yours. Is it any wonder that military recruiting is an urgent and dire issue facing the US Armed Forces? ?? By empowering military spouses with meaningful employment opportunities, we not only strengthen their families but also improve our military readiness as a whole. ?? Life remains incredibly complicated geopolitically. When we leave military spouses unemployed, we put the financial security and mental health of military families at risk… AND our nation’s security at risk. ? I am incredibly proud that Visa’s new Military Talent Program is intentionally inclusive of military spouses, including those who have active-duty, Reserve and Guard partners. ?Not sure where your company can make a difference? See below for a list of partners and resources. ?? Hiring Our Heroes and their beautifully simple “4+1 Commitment.” HOH is a treasured Visa partner. ?? Military Spouse Employment Partnership--MSEP - DoD-backed MSEP connects military spouses with more than 700 partner employers. ?? 50strong makes networking with potential employers easy, fast and casual with their virtual and in-person events. ?? American Corporate Partners (ACP) provides both military spouses and military veterans with incredible mentorships by mentors from our nation's top employers. Visa has partnered with ACP for 10 years! ?? Blue Star Families was stood up to strengthen and support military families in every way possible. ?? Secure Families Initiative helps milspouses plug into public policy advocacy work that benefits military families. #DoNotThankMe #HireMilitarySpouses #ThatsItThatsTheMessage

A City in a State of Flux: A sad, but true message regarding resources, revenue, and humanity. A noble gesture at the expense of others. On Borders and Veterans: Do We Have An Obligation to Those Who've Served? If so, to what extent? When Thank You For Your Service is No Longer Enough: Denver has an abundance of homeless Veterans; many are waiting for thier paperwork to process through the HUDVASH system, which involves federal, state, and city hurdles. On Calling in Support, and Acting with a Sense of Urgency: From initial request for help, to housed is a process that spans eight-weeks to four months. HUDVASH is a great program that all involved should be proud of. Yet, it has bottlenecks that delay service. I know this because I interact with many #Denver based Veterans who wait under ? ? and bridges - for paperwork to clear. You Break, You Buy: Resiliant, without a bus pass, and long forgotten by the communities that sent them to war - these Veterans suffer with defiant dignity and a sense pride and resilience many cannot understand. #Lipservice #Militaryservice #Veteransuicideprevention
