Because of your support, the INTERCEPT Task Force is protecting our communities and children from predators! In September, our Maryland INTERCEPT Task Force, powered by your contributions, led a multi-agency initiative aimed at stopping child exploitation and human trafficking. With the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and more, we united to identify and arrest individuals targeting minors. Over several days, our dedicated teams conducted both online and in-person operations to hold offenders accountable. We also reached out to parents, sharing critical tips for recognizing warning signs and keeping their children safe online. Your support funds the technology and resources that make these life-saving operations possible. Help us keep up the fight—together, we can create a safer world for our children. ?? Stand with us. Support Operation Light Shine to protect the vulnerable and ensure justice is served.

Tomorrow is your chance to learn Human Trafficking 101. Did you know that 33% of trafficking survivors stated that public buses were used in the facilitation of their exploitation. 26% said that some combination of mass transit such as public buses, subways, and publicly accessible transportation services including lang-distance buses, taxis, and rideshares were used. The council requested more information. I have reached out to the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking (LCHT) and they will be providing training at our March 21st meeting. They will be covering: ? How to identify human trafficking situations and potential victims ? How communities across Colorado are responding to human trafficking ? How to connect to local anti-trafficking and victim support resources and develop protocols to protect victims.

Children on the move are especially vulnerable to traffickers who prey on their insecurity and lack of protection. These traffickers exploit their vulnerability through deceit and manipulation, leading them into terrible exploitation. We must take decisive action to safeguard these children from such heinous crimes. By increasing awareness, strengthening protective measures, and offering support, we can shield them from falling into the hands of traffickers. Let's stand together to protect these children and ensure they have a safe and secure future. Every child deserves to grow up free from fear and exploitation. #leavenochildbehind #worlddayagainsttraffickinginpersons #restipp #EndHumanTrafficking UNODC

Giving security gaurds power's to use physical force, and businesses the right to arm themselves and use physical violence, will escalate the violence in our community. What we are talking about here is allowing and encouraging the creation of citizen led militia. Is this what we want for our communities? Violence begets violence. If we go down this track we will see more people hurt, and I fear, more people will die. We need to deescalate this conversation, and instead focus our attention back on solutions that work. I have huge empathy for the suffering and trauma experienced by whānau in our business community. No one should fear going to work. And if our Government cares about ensuring our whānau who run small businesses are cared for, than we need to take the evidence seriously. Anything less is a choice to weaponize the trauma and pain of a community, in order to drive forward ill-conceived policy, which will result in further perpetuating harm in our community and fail to address the issues at their core or prevent harm from occuring. Punishment does not bring peace. Only #LoveIsTheWay

#SCEPTRE | We made 47 arrests and recovered 47 knives during a national week tackling knife crime (13 - 19 May 2024). The week consisted of enforcement action, as well as school inputs, weapon sweeps, community engagement and test purchase operations at local shops. Superintendent Caroline Hemingway, who leads Op Venture, said, “This week of action is yet another example of how committed we are, alongside our partners, to tackling knife crime. It is a joint approach and cannot just be about enforcement, even though that is an important part of what we do. We are working holistically, bringing policing, health, education, prevention and lived experience together through the Greatre Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, so we can continue making strides to reduce knife crime, and the harm it causes.” Read more: https://orlo.uk/1EiPm
