Ian Chen from Intrinsic was talking in the last Gazebo community meeting about how to build complex simulation environment that runs efficiently in real time. It’ll also give a preview of upcoming Gazebo features implemented to improve physics performance, including mesh convex hull decomposition, collision detection optimizations, as well as recent improvements to the bullet-featherstone physics plugin. Loopy is a robotic swarm of 1- Degree of Freedom (DOF) agents (i.e., a closed-loop made of 36 Dynamixel servos). In this iteration of Loopy, agents use average consensus to determine the orientation of a received shape that requires the least amount of movement. In this video, Loopy is spelling the letters “WVU” and “IRL” - West Virginia University's Interactive Robotics Laboratory - with and without human interaction.
