??The death of the Pharmacy stock room?? Chatting to a multi-site Pharmacy the other day and something obvious sprang to mind With Pharmacy First and the tip towards NHS Services over dispensing Stock rooms are now prime real estate?? And the balance seems to be resulting in conversions of stock rooms to consultation rooms to meet this need ?? The obvious knock-on effect of that is then the death of the bulk order and reliance on daily ordering to fulfill prescriptions?? And with the fragility of supply chain right now, that could mean more empty shelves IMO over the coming years we are going to see a rise in Hub and Spoke dispensing among chains, partly in response to this Big chains keep chests of stock at the 'hub' where they're assembled and prepped for the 'spokes' to dispense Among other advantages this will allow chains to flex their buying power, make strategic buys, and have a chest of stock to ride it out when volatility hits

Take care of your most important asset (the pharmacist) and you won't have to deal with unions. Most health professionals are likely union neutral and don't even think about unions because of the nature of their job,,,helping patients (not customers). That is the "X" factor employee benefit (self-satisfaction you are making a difference) and also to the benefit of their chain employers (can work people terrible hours while overworking and underpaying them). Because pharmacists are in a helping profession, they will tolerate longer, worse hours and so-so pay as highly skilled, highly educated professionals, but only to a point... Now that the line has been crossed for many who work for chains, chain pharmacists everywhere now may be thinking either of a union or working elsewhere. "Pharmageddon" and more intense union activities would not have happened if decision makers were more thoughtful in their strategic decision making. Now these things in the long run may cost them more money than doing the right thing in the first place. This post is coming from a former chain/big box store pharmacist who actually at one time enjoyed working in that model of practice because one really can directly make a difference in the health of patients.

Here is one of the biggest cons in British Medical history, and an incredible bad reflection on the capability of the Pharmacists employed to dispense a lot of over the counter stuff. Day Nurse and Night Nurse. You had a bad cold you would buy both, one to get through the day and the other at night which did make you drowsy and sleep better.They were even before sold in DUAL packs a quantity of each. Did you know that they contained alternate ingredients that counteracted whatever the fever/cold you had? Did you know that Day Nurse got you through the day as it contained a large dose of caffeine? They still display them together but buy them together and you should get a personal warning from the Pharmacist on duty NOT to use them together depending on your symptoms. One even recommended buying both and that what was ( only) missing cold and flu nurse was caffeine ( so prescribed some raw caffeine tablets!). NOT ONE asked what my symptoms were not one and I went to several shops in the UK. Only one in a Tesco Pharmacy refused to sell both ( I can't identify it in case he/she gets the sack as a result and I cannot say that is a policy of Tesco Pharmacies and that advice would apply in all and it would be nice to think it did.). Pathetic isn't it? What value is a pharmacy degree against large drug companies that have been profiting for years in nothing more than a big con.

A Dose of Humor in the Pharmacy! ??* Sometimes, even the most routine tasks turn into unforgettable moments. Recently, I visited the doctor, explained my symptoms, and left with a prescription. All was well until I got home, had my meal, and prepared to take the medicine. I opened the box, ready for my "1+1+1" dose, but to my surprise... no tablets inside! ?? Confused, I double-checked the label, but the box clearly said "1+1+1 dose." So, the next day, I went back to the pharmacy to clear up the mystery. I explained the situation, and after a brief pause, the pharmacist said, "I’m really sorry! I didn’t notice the box was empty!" Lesson learned: Even in the most structured systems, human error happens. It's important to stay patient, laugh at the little surprises life throws our way, and handle things with a positive attitude. ?? #CustomerService #LearningThroughExperience #StayPositive #HumanTouch
