This is a great way to use AI to learn how to solve problems. Anyone else using ChatGPT as a homework sidekick?

Helping your kids with homework has never been easier, thanks to AI. It’s not just about getting the right answer—it’s about understanding how to arrive at it. In our family, we use ChatGPT to guide our daughter through her assignments, and it’s been a game changer. Here’s how we do it: We prompt the AI with something like this: "Hi, please help me assist my daughter with this problem. We’d like you to walk through each step, breaking it down so a 7th grader can easily understand. Thank you. Take a deep breath—you got this! You’re amazing, and you know the entire internet." (Yes, being polite, positive, and encouraging really does help the AI deliver better responses!) We then either copy and paste the math, english, or science problem, or we take a picture and circle the specific area we want the AI to focus on. What we get back from the AI (ChatGPT) is a clear, step-by-step explanation that helps our daughter learn and understand the material at an incredible pace. Integrating this into her homework routine has been nothing short of transformative. Absolute game changer! #teacher #teaching #parenting #homework #AI #ChatGPT #HomeworkHelp

Using AI as a homework sidekick is clever, but let’s rethink its role. Sure, it helps with problem-solving, but don’t let it become a crutch. AI can guide you through concepts, breaking down complex topics into digestible steps. But here’s the insight: *struggle* is where real learning happens. Relying too much on AI shortcuts that process. Instead, use it to check your thought process or clarify confusing points, not replace your mental workout. The real game-changer? AI can teach you how to think critically and find patterns you might miss. Just remember: you’re the pilot, not the passenger. #AIinEducation #CriticalThinkingTools #SmartStudy

Hmmm So actually "figuring something out" ie Thinking does not work lol? - AI is there to assist - when We are intimately involved and are hands on in that endeavor -we(not AI) are Problem Solving.. We then own the Answers (s) - We can say we figured out Problem(s) - AI is assistive.. AI is a helper.. When AI spits out answers.. It may not jibe/match our personal problem solving skills - most employers /some people can now tell where AI is utilized giving non authentic "answers"- use AI... But use your God given Brain and your innate critical thinking skills more frequently than AI-We Humans are capable of so much More than Technology

My son (10) and daughter (12) have their own agents that are tailored to their age, hobbies, personalities, and iterests. We encourage them to talk to their agents for everything. Instead of Google It, it is "Ask Adam" or "Ask Skylar". They were slow to adopt at first - straight up "I don't like AI". Not sure where that came from but I think it was mostly they didn't get or understand it. My daughter also fought with one of our early agents about whether unicorns were real, so that may have had something to do with it haha.? ? We encourage my daughter to use Skylar to help with understanding math concepts and walking her through problems. Thinking of ideas for science fair projects, room designs, etc.? ? My son also has an agent for Roblox ideation and game dev/design. I've also used Adam to make summer worksheets that use his favorite game or TV characters in stories and math problems to keep him interested in learning during the summer. It was amazing. As soon as I started counting how many dragon balls Goku had, math was a breeze!? ? We have used it for interactive stories, pictures, and emojis/stickers as well. AI is already part of their daily lives a d we plan to continue to enhance their specilized agents as they mature.

my daughter was floundering in advanced calculus in engineering school, because the teacher had incomprehensible english. she got a tutor for a while. but after buying a chatgpt subscription, she began to max out the classes; and got rid of the tutor. the future of LLMs as alternatives to books is kind of certain.

I am a history teacher and I am Brazilian. Brazil has many educational gaps due to years and years of poorly designed public policies. Since January 2023, I have been presenting studies and new possibilities for integrating ChatGPT into educational organization, enabling students to develop new skills and increase their learning proficiency levels. Last year, I won an award in the school network where I work. The award was for a project named: ChatGPT as a Tool for Personalized Teaching and Learning.

Are any parents/teachers taking lesson plans and making them more applicable/fun/interesting for kids/students with ChatGPT?! Like an "Olympic sports themed" algebra lesson plan?! Eg. Choose their interest of the moment and have GPT make its answers applicable to this interest to teach the concepts step by step. It would be very cool if so and another great way to aid in learning and remembering!

Yes. My daughter had it analyze her writing style, tone, voice, errors, and used it to help her with her essays. Beings we teach corporations and individuals how to use ChatGPT as a digital teammate she knows that there's a human element where you have to review, edit, and polish what ChatGPT creates. She also uses it to explain concepts that her teachers teach but can't actually provide further explanation or explain it to her in a way that helps her grasp that concept. It's an extremely powerful learning tool that accelerates the human potential for learning almost any topic.

I've recently started using ChatGPT as a supplementary tool for learning Chinese, alongside Duolingo. Whenever I encounter a concept or nuance that's unclear in Duolingo, ChatGPT provides detailed explanations, helping me better understand the language. It's particularly helpful when it comes to explaining Hanzi characters and their radicals, offering in-depth insights I wouldn't get otherwise. Additionally, I can ask questions using typical expressions from my native language, and ChatGPT assists in translating or explaining them in context. I also use it to generate exercises tailored to my current proficiency level (e.g., HSK 1), which has been invaluable in creating a structured learning plan.
