An inspiring kickoff at the World Economic Forum Urban Transformation Summit in San Francisco. Joined by panelists Mmamoloko Nkhensani Kubayi (Minister of Human Settlements, South Africa), Fernando Margain (Chief of Staff, City of Monterrey), Lauren Sorkin-Yeo (ED, Resilient Cities Network), and moderated by Antonio Gomez-Palacio,?we had an impactful conversation centered on how world-leading businesses, community leaders and public officials can take meaningful action to address the growing challenges posed by climate change. My takeaways: ? Long-term interests and short-term incentives need to be aligned, and this requires intentionality and a place-based approach that all stakeholders work toward ? Transformative projects are difficult, and political cycles can impede progress ? Honest, transparent dialogue will help us solve complex problems, build trust across public and private partners, and unlock critical investment ? Solutions abound (now more than ever!) and we have the chance to reshape the landscape while keeping communities at the forefront #WEF #AYdifference

?? #Newblog #outnow by the CGIAR Research Initiative on #ClimateResilience (#ClimBeR). ?? ?? ?? With its geographic vulnerability to extreme weather events, the Philippines has long experienced adverse climate impacts. Vulnerable communities in rural and hazard-prone areas are grappling with increased climate risks. ???? ? ?? There are, however, also inspiring examples of positive adaptation, innovation, and women’s leadership emerging in the face of adversity. In this new blog, Olivia Ebenst?l Almeida from Nordic Africa Institute shares her experiences from a recent field visit to Eastern Luzon, in the Philippines, in collaboration with the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR ) - ClimBeR's local partner. Her blog explores both local perspectives of social equity and the key dynamics that shape climate change preparedness and potential transformative adaptation pathways. She writes of how women are leading the way to building community resilience, despite the social inequities that prevent their success. ?? Words cannot express my gratitude to all the presenters and participating stakeholders who attended the 'Habitable Futures: Adapting Policy in a Changing Climate' event. The two days were filled with deep discussions and invaluable learning at the climate change adaptation interface. We explored the interconnections and policy implications surrounding topics such as climate-induced migration, climate change adaptation, the role of the circular economy, challenges around land markets for vulnerable communities, and adaptation planning in human settlement design. I want to extend a special thank you to my The Hugo Observatory: Environment, Migration, Politics #habitableproject and the CSIR Smart Places team for their incredible support and contributions to the success of the event. The event saw strong representation from researchers, policymakers, and practitioners across national and local government, the private sector, and research organizations. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this enriching experience! #HabitableProject #CSIR #ClimateChangeAdaptation #CircularEconomy #Migration #PolicyImplications #Sustainability #SmartPlaces #Collaboration #AdaptationPlanning #Greenbook
