Sophomore nursing major Carly Berg spoke at the Metro College Alliance news conference today about the importance of the course exchange program to her career goals. The Moorhead High School graduate says she knew she always wanted to attend MSUM. "The Tri-College program has been very impactful for me by allowing me to stay at MSUM as a student but also to take advantage of ROTC (at NDSU) because I want to be a part of the military when I graduate." Since 1962, Tri-College University has been a source of local pride and national prominence, benefiting more than 70,000 students with diversified academic experiences. On Jan. 1, 2025, the new Metro College Alliance course exchange agreement will replace the Tri-College University consortium agreement. It will continue to support broadened educational opportunities and maintain a seamless course enrollment process that benefits students.

This is great news - but Early Childhood needs to be included in the list of programs to be considered. The industry is in crisis with unavailability of qualified workers!
It was wonderful to host the Prime Minster Anthony Albanese's visit to ACU's Strathfield campus today. He met with students to learn more about the impact of compulsory placements during study. Lots of experiences were shared of not being able to undertake paid work, and for some students, challenges affording food and rent. At ACU we have been lobbying for paid placements for many years and are pleased that an allowance (albeit modest) is now in place. The new legilsation will help Australia continue to attract people into nursing, social work, psychology, teaching, and allied health. ??

As your school continues to work on moving to competency-based education and implementing the Essentials, it’s important to remember that teamwork and communication will make the process smoother for everyone involved. Becky Davis, DNP, RN, Assistant Professor at Creighton University’s College of Nursing, found that their school’s productivity skyrocketed after they began having routine check-ins with key contributors from across their three campuses. “It’s been really helpful, because oftentimes we get a lot more information on how we might proceed … Engage people often, frequently, along the road and involve as many as you can. Even though it’s challenging, we are clearly better together.” Learn more about Creighton University’s journey to implement the Essentials and move to CBE:

Did you know that in 20 states, anyone can go to community college for free? In another 14, there are free tuition for specific groups, like people over 25 or majors with high-demand industries like nursing. We hear a lot about the rising cost of private universities (with good reason). But much less publicized is the fact that since Tennessee started offering free community college for all in 2017, the trend has caught on, in both red and blue states. So maybe reforming higher ed should be less about lowering the cost of the private schools (though that should happen), and more about raising the prestige, and the opportunities, that come from a community college degree.
