What's the Wi-fi password? Ever wonder why you can't connect to a radio signal while doing underground inspections? The Short answer is because there is too much stuff in the way! Okay, now for the scientific explanation. Radio waves can be absorbed through different materials such as concrete, and dirt, weakening or eliminating the signal. Radio waves can also be reflected back based on metals, such as copper and aluminum making it difficult to escape and reach a receiver. Signals such as these prevent you from sending remote-operated devices such as drones or devices that use GPS, will be inaccurate due to how signals work underground. There are challenges to conducting underground inspections like this, but that's where the #Robots of RedZone Robotics, Inc. come in. The construction cycle of tunnels by the conventional “drill and blast” method requires the use of different surveying instruments to control the execution of the work. Robotic total stations are irreplaceable for staking out with the laser pointer, but the profile acquisition is very slow (typically 20-60 minutes or more for measuring 5 profiles with 20 points each). The result will consist of tens or a few hundred precise points. Terrestrial scanners, on the other hand, are very fast in data acquisition (example: 3 minutes for scanning the full dome) and we will get as result detailed information with millions of points. And in both cases, to calculate volumes it is usually necessary to export the data and analyze them in the office using specific applications. These processes involve multiple pieces of equipment, data exchange between applications and going from the office to the site and back, which can involve costly machinery and personnel downtime. Reporting is an essential step in the surface inspection quality process. At 8tree, we've gone one step further, simplifying surface inspection and transforming the reporting process. Our reports are widely known in the aviation industry. Now, we're applying our report format and proven reporting approach to our wind turbine blade manufacturing business. A brief excursion into a new application from our wind business: With just one click, our tool digitally captures the deviation between the nominal and actual contour of a wind blade's leading edge. Followed by a comprehensive report showing all the details needed. So, how does the process work? ?? Position the scanner at the inspection point on the leading edge and trigger a scan. ?? Using AR, the scanner will project measurement results, allowing you to identify where rework is required instantly. ?? Create instant, clear reports of rework and final results. We have already implemented this process as a standard in the aviation industry. With this experience, we are now adapting it to the wind industry. For example, in the case of a leading edge, a rejection report highlights the out-of-tolerance of the nominal and actual contour. After correcting it with grinding or filler, you can rescan it with profileCHECK (our new waveCHECK sub-application) to ensure success.
