Ban Paraquat immediately.
Almost 60 countries have banned paraquat with no discernible impact on agricultural production. Several sustainability standards including?Rainforest Alliance?and?Fairtrade, and European retailers have also successfully eliminated paraquat from global supply chains.
Most concerning is that Paraquat is immobile in soil and remarkably hydrophilic (remaining in water columns and sediment), thus having a long environmental half-life with nonselective toxicity. Although the review highlights that nontarget plants are most at risk from environmentally relevant concentrations of Paraquat, vertebrates, and invertebrates still receive nonselective toxicity mainly through oxidative stress, with the review noting that Paraquat has one of the highest acute toxicity values among all herbicides.
More than 70% of acute?paraquat?poisonings result in death.

Meet Larry Wyles, a Pennsylvania farmer who is battling to ban paraquat, the toxic weed killer linked to Parkinson's.
He sprayed paraquat on his farm for years and was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
It is already banned in more than 50 countries, yet is still used in the U.S. today.
Join us and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research to heed Larry's call on the government to ban paraquat.

Hello
5 个月I'm wondering if Jim will ever run for a political office. I'd vote for Jim before just about any candidate in any other race. He's what my Great Uncle would call, "Good people." I'm also glad you're still there, Jo Ann Sergenko. There was no one better, kinder, or more compassionate, and when that phone rang I could never out draw JoAnnie Oakley. ??
