As the industry progresses towards Cradle to Grave marking, it's essential to avoid the common pitfall of using off-the-shelf Marking Lasers for post-process resistant Laser Marks. This week alone, I encountered 3 customers who had made this error. These lasers may be slow, PC-based, and lack industrial quality, failing to deliver the marks required, despite what the sales representatives claim. If you require marks that can withstand heat treatment, Ecoat, powder coat, shot-blasting, or need to be completed in under 1 second, always demand proof. Visit the company's lab to witness the performance firsthand, and request customer references for validation. Here's a prime example of effective marking: a seating rail marked in just 0.9 seconds, subsequently coated and graded C or better.
