The past few years have been a career rollercoaster for me. After the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 shut the door on my career in agriculture, I faced a long and difficult struggle trying to find my way back into the industry, especially my choice of role. But; "Every storm runs out of rain" and, my breakthrough came with Talents in Agriculture. After that call with Oyin Asaaju, the Talent-in-Chief of TAG, the end of a difficult chapter came and the beginning of a new journey unfolded. The joy of returning to the industry I love overshadowed every hardship I’d faced. Looking back at the few months I have spent with this team, I can say that my work is filled with purpose, impact, and excitement. While my days no longer involve planting seeds and harvesting crops in the fields, I now work with a passionate team who are dedicated to planting talents and helping agribusinesses harvest growth, efficiency, and profitability. Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor: Like every growing season, 2024 taught me that the best yields come from nurturing both roots and new growth. ?? This year brought a special kind of harvest - returning from maternity leave to discover new depths in both my agricultural roots and talent acquisition role. Just as farmers know the importance of timing and patience, I learned to balance motherhood with my passion for connecting people to agricultural opportunities. Key moments that shaped our field in 2024: ? Completed 11 professional certifications in recruiting and leadership ? Successfully transitioned back to work as a new mom, bringing fresh perspective to talent development ? Maintained strong connections to farm life while expanding agricultural recruitment initiatives ? Celebrated Syngenta's recognition as the #1 agricultural employer globally Looking ahead to 2025: Just as farmers prepare their fields for the next season, I'm focused on cultivating strong talent pipelines for agriculture's future while maintaining that crucial connection between corporate recruiting and real-world farming. To every agricultural professional considering their next move: Your experience matters, your perspective is valuable, and there's room for growth in this vital industry. ?? #Agriculture #SyngentaCareers #Farming #TeamSyngenta

Chimamanda said it very well- Beware of the danger of a single story. So guys, you know how agriculture for me is not only a career, but a purpose project? Well Last week in partnership with Shujaaz, I moderated a round table of young African leaders in the Agricultural space, funders, implementers, value actors..... to unpack the good stuff & not so good stuff about the industry. What a conversation! Laughter and reminiscing on why agriculture was not our no.1 career option growing up and what we would do different now ...knowing what we know, so as to drop the ladder for those coming into it now. Remember my intro -the danger of a single story? Well Agriculture is an industry that has been impacted by a single story of negativity and stereotyping to the extent that there is little curiosity and aspiration in this space, Yet this is an industry that is a growth space hungry for tech, manufacturing set up from cottage to mega processing, marketing..you name it there is boundless opportunity. As we dug deeper past the previous generations stereotypical outlook on it as a place where people who have no hope go...in Kenyanese...'Kurudi Ocha'.. We realised that for most of us we did not pick agriculture as a first choice career...... so before we ask other young people why it is not their first choice (yes I added myself there-i am young in spirit) we need to self examine and ask ourselves as agricultural practitioners what were the barriers we faced Guys, here are some of the answers:- 1. Agriculture in high school was used as a punishment, why would anyone willingly go to take up what already is seen as negative? 2. Social denigration-when one does it one is seen as someone without prospects-In fact for African parents they would not publicly say their child is a farmer.... as loud as they would were they a lawyer or a doctor! Woii! 3. Most Africans have experienced farming from a 'broke people perspective' not from the organized progressive new ways of farming, large scale perspective or even intensive small space farming where people mint millions in agriculture. Knowing what we know now, here we are loving the space...because agriculture is not just production..it is a huge industry.. so clearly our mandate as passion players in this industry is to create the bridge that showcases how lucrative this industry is and why we love to play in food systems.... I am so excited for where agriculture and food systems is headed!! Luckily Shujaaz Inc is compiling a report that has interviewed the youth and players in the industry, with some key insights that will help us understand better how we can breathe life into this industry, can't wait!! Thankyou my African Food Fellowship fellows Grace N. Njoroge Janet Ngombalu. Asante Stefano Carcoforo Luise Indimuli Wanjeri Mbugua Mwandwe Chileshe Mumbi Musyimi Moses K. Pierra Nyaruai and the farmers from the Shujaaz farm network. Thankyou Bridget Deacon and team Phyllis Mburu-Karebe for hosting us.

Agriculture is at a turning point. I know many of us feel it. But here's the hard truth for many Ag-related companies: the only way forward is responsibly scaling, prioritizing revenue, and moving faster than we might feel ready for. Farmers are already getting ready for spring planting, and biologicals are gaining real traction. If your product isn’t in the mix by March, the opportunity to enter this season is lost. Hiring a few full-time roles to get there might seem logical, but it’s costly and slow. Instead, strategic partnerships now can fast-track growth without the massive investment. Right now, we have a small window to act. Waiting means more than just missed revenue—it means missing the momentum this market is finally building. #Agriculture #Biologicals #SustainableFarming #Growth
