We remember and honor the 168 lives lost to senseless violence on April 19, 1995. Let us also remember the resilience of our OKC community when we all come together to help each other recover and find a better tomorrow. #WeRemember

??? Every year we need to publish our Modern Slavery Statement on our website, outlining all of our work we do to ensure our supply chains are free from Modern Slavery. Modern slavery looks very different to the image of slavery in the past, but it is still prevalent in the world today. Anti-Slavery International define modern slavery as being “when an individual is exploited by others, for personal or commercial gain. Whether tricked, coerced, or forced, they lose their freedom. This includes but is not limited to human trafficking, forced labour and debt bondage.” If you work for us you can learn more about how to spot the warning signs of Modern Slavery and how to help someone suffering under Modern Slavery in the ESR course: “000 Identifying and Supporting Victims of Modern Slavery”. It's an online course that will help you understand more about the topic. Watch the five minute video below produced by NHS England on Modern Slavery which helps explain the issue. Day 2 of #WeekWithoutViolence | This week is a powerful reminder of the impact that violence has on individuals and communities. To build a world where everyone can live free from fear and harm, we must take action—not just in our daily lives, but also at the ballot box. Your vote can shape policies that promote peace, safety, and justice for all. Let’s commit to electing leaders who are dedicated to ending violence and supporting survivors. ?? #WeekWithoutViolence #VoteToEndViolence #EmpowerSurvivors #YWCA

Congratulations to my good friend Ellysia and the team at 303 MullenLowe for their effort and work on the launch of a new Government of Western Australia campaign to raise awareness of and provide support against coercive control as a form of family and domestic violence. The 'Coercion Hurts' campaign, which is part of a wider range of Government of Western Australia initiatives and programmes to support victim-survivors, intervene with perpetrators, and work towards stopping violence before it starts, aims to raise awareness that coercive control is a pattern of repeated behaviours intended to cause harm and maintain control over someone. Coercive control can be subtle and difficult to identify. It can manifest as making decisions for someone, monitoring their movements, isolating them, or gaslighting. It can also involve restricting someone's access to their money or threatening to hurt them if they try to leave. Just because there's no physical abuse doesn't mean the risk of serious harm – or even death – is any lower. If you or someone you know is in a coercive relationship, you're not alone, and there's always help available. In an emergency, call 000. If you or someone you know is experiencing family and domestic violence, there are support services available: - Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline: 1800 007 339 - Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline: 1800 000 599 - 1800RESPECT: 1800 737 732 - Kids Helpline: 1800 551 800

Using “change agents” and “peacekeepers”, #AdvancePeace helps those affected by cyclical and retaliatory gun violence in unique ways, which include but not limited to: ? Designating “change agents” to work with fellows within an 18-month program ensuring participants don’t engage in #gunviolence. ? Meet and talk with their assigned fellows at least 3 times per day. ? When necessary, paying off debts that a fellow may owe someone that might be seeking revenge against them over said debt. ? Provide relocation expenses for fellows in order to diffuse a tense situation. “We do what works, not what people think is appropriate...How can I send a team of folks out into the community and expect the community to share information with us if we were sharing that information with law enforcement or the justice system. We would lose all our credibility and I would be putting my staff in danger,” reminds Paul Elam, Chief Strategy Officer of Advance Peace Lansing.
