"At DTU, we are working to create the best engineering programs in Europe. Continually. So that is why we have introduced the polytechnical foundation at DTU: It consists of a series of compulsory courses for all civil engineering students, which ensure a broad, common professional starting point," says President Anders Overgaard Bjarklev in this talk. #DTUdk #TechnologyForPeople #EngineeringEducation #Engineering

?????? Exploring the Future of Engineering Education ?????? This week’s technical note spotlight?is on the latest research published in the?Journal of Civil Engineering Education. The paper?“Exploring Perceptions of Social and Generic Competencies among Engineering Students, Professors, and Practitioners” is authored by?Irene Josa i Culleré and A. Aguado. Objective: The paper aims to bridge the gap between the technical skills taught in engineering programs and the soft skills required in the professional world. By understanding the perceptions of students, professors, and practitioners, the study provides insights into how curricula can be adjusted to better prepare future engineers. ???Learn more about this research here: https://lnkd.in/gEt25ExA ???Read the full paper in the Journal of Civil Engineering Education: https://lnkd.in/gi-NbQG7 #EngineeringEducation #CivilEngineering #SoftSkills #ProfessionalDevelopment #ResearchSpotlight #EngineeringStudents #EngineeringProfessors #EngineeringPractitioners

Was super fun shooting and learning the different and practical methodologies of civil engineering
At Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, we emphasize the importance of practical, hands-on learning over theoretical knowledge alone. We are committed to provide our students with the necessary practical experience to fully comprehend their respective fields of study. To facilitate this, we maintain well-equipped laboratories for each department, outfitted with cutting-edge technology and tools. Our commitment to provide students with practical learning experiences is exemplified by our state-of-the-art concrete technology laboratory. Equipped with cutting-edge tools and equipment like compression testing machines, rebound hammers, and compaction factor test machines, our Civil Engineering students delve into the intricacies of concrete materials and processes. Through hands-on experimentation and exploration, they develop invaluable skills and knowledge that prepare them for real-world challenges in the field of civil engineering. #PHCET #EngineeringExcellence #InnovativeEducation #EmpoweringEngineers #TransformingMinds #LearnWithPHCET #EngineeringLeadership #SkillDevelopment #StudyatPillai

Bridging the Gap...... VNITAA organized a valuable event to bridge the gap between current students and alumni of the Civil Engineering Department. This initiative, led by Dr. Vaidehi A Dakwale, provided students with a platform to engage with alumni and gain insights into the industry, explore career avenues, and understand the practical applications of their academic knowledge. The interaction with alumni is indeed a powerful way for students to learn about real-world challenges, emerging technologies, and the diverse roles civil engineers undertake. By establishing an ecosystem for students and alumni to connect outside the classroom, VNITAA can foster mentorship, share knowledge on industry trends, and potentially organize site visits. Such visits are excellent learning opportunities that allow students to see the direct application of their studies in infrastructure projects and innovative construction methods. Creating a strong, continuous link between academia and the industry can significantly benefit students in preparing for their careers and can inspire them to excel in their fields.

"Students don't need assignments on pages, they need assignments on CVs" by Dr. Syed Saad. Inspired by this, I finished the Coursera course "Mechanics of Materials IV: Deflection, Buckling, Combined Loading and Failure Theories" well before the final exam, which I originally planned to tackle afterward. While I already had a love for taking online courses that rewards at the end, Dr. Syed Saad ? recent posts truly motivated me to excel. Although the replacement of conventional assignments with Complex Engineering Problems, Projects, and Certifications is being practiced by many faculty members at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, designing a laboratory course with some compulsory certifications and projects by the Faculty of Engineering Sciences | GIK Institute is above all. I hope that our esteemed Department of Civil Engineering | GIK Institute will also introduce compulsory certifications in the laboratory courses. The course below is designed and taught amazingly and helped me strengthen my foundation in Structural Engineering. The videos are short and brief, so you won't get bored. I recommend it to all Civil Engineering students who struggle with structural analysis. #coursera #certification #structuralanalysis #structuralengineering #lifelonglearning

I am happy to announce that I have completed my MSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Brighton achiving the grade of Distinction. My dissertation, entitled “Optimisation of the Geometry for Novel Foundations in Offshore Wind Turbines,” presented the following main findings: 1) Pile Integration for Lateral Performance: Coupling a pile beneath the base of a Gravity Base Structure (GBS) enhances lateral performance against forces produced by wind and waves. 2) Lateral Resistance Components: The primary elements of lateral resistance include shear resistance between the GBS base and the passive forces applied along the pile’s shaft. 3) Self-Installation through Vertical Force Application: Applying additional vertical forces facilitates a self-installing mechanism, leveraging the structure’s own weight. 4) Enhanced Confinement and Lateral Resistance: Increasing the structure's weight raises the stresses beneath it, which improves the confinement around the pile and consequently increases lateral resistance. 5) GBS Embedding for Improved Lateral Performance: Controlled application of vertical forces enables the GBS system to embed into the seabed, increasing lateral performance due to passive pressure around the GBS walls. The graph below shows the comparison between the GBS and MGBS systems with different geometries, varying in pile length and base diameter.
