Thought Leadership asked Linked-In members to answer the question: As a thought leader, how do you safeguard your intellectual property? My response: In the non-profit sector we've built everything we have with public and donated funds. Ethically, morally, usually legally, it should all contribute to open source, open algorithms, Creative Commons. We put our best thoughts out there to share, dialogue, build. Evidence suggests that complex problems require a "Collective Impact" approach to move the dial. None of us can accomplish anything alone. We need to transform our organisational cultures to think and act collaboratively, instead of jockeying for positions, and competing. Personally, my heroes are: Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, and the curanderos and healers who have shared their knowledge freely and widely to support life on earth. IF your concern is money, and securing your livelihood, then lawyers and rich people have given you: Patents, Copyright,Trademarks, NDAs, and DRM, so go for it.

How it works You can help us in one of three ways: ?? funding a Scholarship yourself ???? getting together with family, friends, colleagues to fund a Group Scholarship ?? or donating a smaller amount that will go to fund a book or books as part of a ‘Bookshelf Scholarship’. ?? Our Scholarships are for ￡275, around the average cost of a student’s first year Reading List. ?? Your gesture?will?help a student and?will?make a difference (79% of last year’s Scholarship winners said the award made ‘a big difference’ to their first year of study). ?? If you nominate a school or college – your old school perhaps, or one in your community – we will contact them and ask if they would be willing to award the Scholarship to a high-achieving student (most, but not all, schools are happy to). Just let us know which school or college you’d like it directed to. ?? We will let you know (in October) where the student is going on to study, and what subject, so you get a strong sense of who your Scholarship will help. ??
