These "highways" allow westbound flights to avoid the strong headwinds of the jet stream, while eastbound flights take advantage of tailwinds to reduce flight times. In this incredible daily coordination, aircraft fly at different altitudes, known as flight levels, carefully adjusted to maintain safe separation. Today, I want to give thanks to the air traffic control teams and the technology that makes these crossings possible with complete safety. For instance, on a recent flight, our aircraft at FL380 (38,000 feet) was just 2,000 feet above a B787 from American Airlines, and 1,000 feet above a British Airways A380 at FL350. Despite the proximity, perfect coordination ensures that these planes are not only safely separated but also avoid wake turbulence, providing a smoother flight. Thanks to the technology and expertise from both sides of the Atlantic, we continue to fly safely and efficiently every day. ??
