An important part of BSEE’s responsibilities is to ensure that infrastructure used in exploration, development, and production activities on the OCS are properly decommissioned to provide long-term protection of the resources and the surrounding environment. “The investment announced yesterday under the president’s Investing in America agenda will provide BSEE with critical funding to help address and remedy orphaned infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico’s West Delta and High Island areas. This infusion of funding makes the Outer Continental Shelf safer and cleaner and helps BSEE make certain that infrastructure used in exploration, development, and production activities is properly decommissioned.” BSEE’s regulatory authority for OCS decommissioning is provided by 30 CFR 250, Subpart Q, Decommissioning Activities.
