Admiral James Stockdale was a United States Navy vice admiral and aviator who was awarded the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War, during which he was a prisoner of war for over seven years.?Stockdale was the most senior naval officer held captive in Hanoi, North Vietnam.? ? He became known for a principle that he taught called The Stockdale Paradox, which Jim Collins mentions in his book?Good to Great.?Here is what Stockdale taught: “You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality.” It was that principle that allowed him to survive in captivity.?And there are many ways we can apply this in our personal and professional lives as well.?In any area of our life where we haven’t fully achieved our potential or reached our goals it is important that we first have the belief that we can accomplish it, but also face the facts that are holding us back so that we can identify the roadblocks and make the appropriate adjustments to push towards the goal.?I can think of a few areas in my life where this applies.?What area is it for you? ? I hope this will inspire you to take a few minutes to think about that and reset your belief that you can achieve your goals, but also take a hard look at the obstacles that you need to develop a plan to overcome.? ? Have a great week, and Keep Your Mindset Reset!! ?? #mondaymindsetreset

Important day and a strong message delivered across the Maritime and Defence Industry. An improvement of the lived experience is desperately needed to encourage more personnel to join a thriving and exhilarating sector. Government’s 2050 Maritime Strategy is for 30% of the workforce to be female. Currently most organisations struggle to see double figures (standfast Royal Navy). We still struggle to see inclusion across the workforce with women frequently seen as being ‘less’ or a ‘nuisance’ through wishing for both family life and careers. The two are not mutually exclusive. I was one of those in my 20s who felt I just wanted to get on with my job and that everyone should be treated equally without getting involved in female specific organisations. I didn’t want to rock the boat and threw scorn on those who did. Now I am the one with humble pie finding myself with both childcare and career requirements. In the UK Merchant Navy >92% identify as white British male, more work needs to be done. I am proud of the work I do within the RFA as well as what I achieve in my seagoing career. It is better to inspire, empower and promote inclusion across the workforce to be stronger together.
Celebrating #InternationalWomensDay with WISTA UK and Stephenson Harwood LLP. Thank you Monica for the invitation to be inspired by Tammy Samuel, Jessica Tyson and Fiona Cook. Also fabulous to spend time with colleagues. Royal Fleet Auxiliary Royal Navy Military Sealift Command

I often talk about how the skills and experience our ex #ArmedForces candidates gain from the military. There is growing accreditation of military experience by civilian organisations. These include professional bodies such as APM, IMechE, CILT and BCS. For example, did you know that a British Army & Royal Marine Captain, Royal Navy Lieutenant & RAF Flight Lieutenant have received leadership skills training equivalent to a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management from the CMI or ILM? #Recruitment #Leadership #RecruitArmedForces

In my life I've had many ask, and I know others wonder, what makes the Marine Corps unique and why do we insist on calling ourselves Marines, not Soldiers? It's because, seen below, to become a Marine is one of the hardest things to do in the US military. A US Marine's basic requirement, The Crucible, is in the top 3 hardest training in the US armed services with Navy Seal and Army Ranger training. The difference is EVERY Marine must go through the Crucible before they can graduate Boot Camp and earn the title of a US Marine. Not all make it but if you do, you never forget it. In contrast, the Navy's "Seal"and Army's "Ranger" training are specialize for advanced combat readiness in their branch and not part of their core competencies. You must be selected to go to those and very few are. The mission of all 3 trainings is to be first to the fight and ready under any geographical condition using any form of mobility available. This is why we call ourselves Marines and not soldiers and the same reason Ranger call themselves Rangers and Seals called themselves Seals. Not to disparage any other branch of our beloved armed forces. Everyone of us signed the line to give our life for a greater cause and that makes everyone who served selfless heroes. Here's why our attributes will dictate how fast we learn new skills. Rich Diviney is a retired navy seal commander, who served 20 years in United states Navy. In his book "The Attributes: 25 Hidden Drivers of Optimal Performance," He states that attributes inform the way we learn new skills and apply them. Skills are parental in nature; they can be taught whereas attributes are inbuilt and everyone has different levels of adaptability. A kid's ability to ride a bike is determined by his perseverance and Resilience. We all possess the attributes to learn new things however, the extent of each attribute within us is different. We must develop these attributes to adapt to our environments.

4 周Chief Sealth’s Birthplace in Puget Sound Chief Sealth, also known as Chief Seattle, was a respected leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribes in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. He was born around 1786 on or near Blake Island, which is located in Puget Sound, Washington State. Blake Island is a small island southwest of present-day Seattle and holds cultural significance for the local Native American tribes. The island was part of the traditional ancestral lands where the Suquamish and Duwamish people lived, hunted, and fished long before European settlers arrived. Chief Sealth played a pivotal role in the history of the region, known for his leadership and efforts to promote peace between Native Americans and European settlers. His legacy is commemorated in the naming of the city of Seattle, and his influence continues to be recognized in the area’s history and cultural heritage.
