A friend and I were discussing our legal careers this week, and a question emerged: are we drawn to the prestige of a title, or the fulfilling practice of law itself? Many aspiring lawyers/trainees (myself included) chase big firms/organisation and impressive titles. But what if the key to success lies elsewhere?
When we focus solely on the title, we risk neglecting the skills that will actually make us exceptional lawyers. Instead, let's shift our focus to mastering the discipline of law.
By honing our legal expertise, we build a strong foundation for a thriving career. We develop the skills that set us apart and make us valuable assets. The title, after all, is a natural consequence of the value we bring.
Aspiring lawyers/trainees who are passionate about the practice, not just the title, radiate that passion. They're the ones who impress potential employers and secure the opportunities they deserve.
So what are your thoughts? Is the title the ultimate goal, or is it the journey of becoming a great lawyer?
