Like every vocation, people who choose the life of a #schoolsafety professional are by and large more capable to help protect students, staff and visitors. It is not enough to have passion to protect our kids, there are skills, experience and talent necessary to lead schools to a safer place. ZeroNow has released a white paper explaining the value of a dedicated "school safety director." Every school needs a dedicated professional responsible and accountable for #schoolsafety and #schoolsecurity. A person school administrators can "count on" to make decisions, prepare policy and direct the operations of school safety / security. Take the time to read this document and you just may see why it is time to consider a bona-fide security professionals in our schools.

Here are some important reminders for back to school safety - Obey school zone signals & speed limits. When entering a school zone, slow down & obey all traffic laws. Stop for school buses that are loading or unloading children. Watch out for school crossing guards & obey their signals.

In the wake of the 2023 K-12 School Safety Survey, which captured the sentiments of 1,000 K-12 parents and educators, it's evident that safety concerns in schools are growing. The survey reveals that 67% of parents and educators are more concerned about school safety now than ever before. The Special Grand Jury investigating the Richneck Elementary School shooting, which occurred on January 6, 2023 in Newport News, Virginia, has been released. The purpose of this report is to: -Address the question if there was any decision or action taken that would have prevented the events that occurred. -Make practical recommendations for improvement. -Determine if any of the parties in the Newport News Public School System administration should be criminally liable for their actions or lack of actions in their duties to provide for the care and safety of the children attending Richneck. This is great! Florida’s House Bill 1473 enhances school security through several key measures: ? School Safety Compliance Inspections: The Office of Safe Schools (OSS) is mandated to develop and adopt a Florida school safety compliance inspection report by August 1, 2024. OSS will conduct triennial, unannounced inspections of all public and charter schools to ensure adherence to safety protocols. ? Locked Doors Requirement: Schools are required to keep all exterior doors locked or guarded while students are present, bolstering campus security. ? FortifyFL Instruction: Schools must provide students with instruction on using FortifyFL, a tool for reporting suspicious activities, within the first five days of each school year, promoting proactive safety measures. ? Grant Program for Private Schools: Subject to appropriation, a grant program will be established to support private schools’ safety efforts, encouraging comprehensive security practices across all educational institutions.
