EGM seals charter deal with Equinor for 4 wind-powered battery dual-fuel methanol tankers EuroGreen Maritime (EGM), a French shipping company focused on sustainable maritime solutions, has entered into a seven-year charter agreement, with options for five one-year extensions, for four hybrid battery/dual-fuel methanol vessels with the Norwegian energy company Equinor. The charter contract was signed after EGM won the tender process with both technical and financial criteria initiated in December 2023. This transaction, supported by Bermuda-based ship owner and charterer SFL Corporation, is said to represent ‘a significant advancement in green shipping’ and underscores a shared vision for a cleaner, more sustainable maritime industry. Under the agreement, EGM will deliver four MR IMO II product tankers developed in collaboration with LMG Marin France to set new standards in eco-friendly shipping that rely on commercial-utilized technologies. The vessels, scheduled for delivery starting in the first half of 2026 through 2027 and having a value of more than $250 million, will be constructed at Wuhu Shipyard in Weihai, China. https://bit.ly/3xs0k42 #sustainable #methanol #efuel #alternativefuel #renewable #cleanfuel #futurefuel

Ammonia-powered Fortescue Green Pioneer in world’s first ammonia bunkering PORTS & LOGISTICS March 15, 2024, by?Fatima Bahti? Australia’s green energy firm Fortescue, with the support from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), government agencies, research institutes, and industry partners, has conducted what it says to be the world’s first use of ammonia as a marine fuel onboard ammonia-powered vessel. "The Green Pioneer stands as a testament to our delivery capability and dedication, showcasing the future of green ammonia as a marine fuel."It calls on ports, legislators and institutions to join the group in this initiative to create ammonia hubs and corridors. ?According to the UK-based research and consultancy firm Maritime Strategies International (MSI, the next 25 years are likely to see ammonia trade transformed with clean ammonia providing new demand for close to 400 very large gas carriers, compared to a current fleet of 375 focused on carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Methanol fuel storage tanks onboard methanol-capable ships will not drastically impact their cargo capacity and operational efficiency - Auramarine Ltd The second part of the 'Future Fuel Talks' series is here! This time, Auramarine’s project manager Mikko Sinivaara and product manager Valtteri Vainio address a key question about using methanol as a bunker fuel. Methanol (green!) is considered a zero-emission potential bunker fuel. DNV data shows there are already 33 methanol-capable ships in operation, with another 248 ships on order for delivery by 2028. While this is promising, methanol’s low volumetric energy density means that methanol fuel storage tanks onboard ships need to be 2.5 times bigger than VLSFO and MGO storage tanks, or 1.3 times bigger than LNG tanks. Will this compromise a ship's cargo capacity and operational efficiency? And are shipowners ready to sacrifice cargo capacity for methanol fuel storage onboard? Mikko and Valtteri provide much needed answers! Check out what they had to say on ENGINE’s website ?? https://lnkd.in/drTPMk3n #shipping #maritime #greenfuel #methanol #bunkering #innovation #shippingindustry
