On January 31, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved the restoration and reform of permitting under the Clean Water Act. This decision ensures that National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, widely used by mosquito control organizations, now provide clear and reliable regulatory listings for easy access by permit holders. Importantly, these changes prioritize consistency and transparency in the permitting processes without overhauling or rolling back the Clean Water Act. We appreciate the efforts of Chairman Rouzer and Congressmen Stauber, Owens, Burlison, and Duarte on this bill. Dr. Kristen Healy, President of the American Mosquito Control Association, emphasizes that the elimination of duplicative permits under the Clean Water Act, supported by the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2024, will undoubtedly enhance public health protections in the United States. https://ow.ly/hVtE50QyyrI
