Check out why BreastScreen Aotearoa’s clinical lead, Dr Adam Stewart, believes early detection and raising the age for free mammograms to 74 are so important. We agree! So please get your mammograms when eligible, get to know the normal look and feel of your breasts, and head to the doctor if you notice any changes. We will let you know what is happening with the age extension when we know more. https://ow.ly/HxTn50RoHyl

A decade ago, we launched our movement for a world without necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). We could not accept the isolation and lack of resources we experienced in the NICU when our baby was diagnosed with NEC. We could not accept the false notion that NEC was inevitable in some preemies - a complication of prematurity that couldn't be avoided. We could not accept that there was not a single organization in the world dedicated to understanding, preventing, and treating this cruel disease. We will never accept the inability to #preventNEC. We must #preventNEC and build a world without this devastating disease. Our babies and families are counting on us. And together, we will get there. We have come so far in 10 years. You can help us go even further over the next decade at NECsociety.org #NECresearch #NECeducation #NECadvocacy

Please join us in welcoming our newest member We Want Life (WWL). WWL was founded by Esraa, a cancer patient advocate who has worked with thousands of patients since 2011. She gained in-depth experience in five years and learned valuable insights that led to the establishment of WWL. Patients have something to say, patients have useful input for the policy makers. Patients need guidance to say their insights in a useful way. Patients are the end users of the health care system. Patients need a chair at the table where decisions are made. Patients need training and inspiration to be able to earn the chair. Patients need this chair because they need life to be more precious, they need a quality life, so it is time to start our patient advocacy group, because we all want a life! Empowering patients to positively impact the healthcare system in the best possible way. Learn more:?https://lnkd.in/eGAhf8cp

Bravo Jacqueline for this post and this poignant and courageous testimony. Sepsis is a major cause of mortality, but also of very long convalescence and after-effects. The United States is a leader in terms of knowledge of sepsis among the general public and decision-makers. But what is sepsis? ??Sepsis is the body's "desperate" response to an infection it considers threatening. All organs fail to a greater or lesser extent. ??Sepsis is often very sudde going from a banal infection to "something else" without realizing it at first. It's an emergency => intensive care (ICU), often life-saving (20-50% mortality). But there is no specific treatment for sepsis. Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality, suffering (of families, loved ones, recovering) and healthcare cost. (20% of worldwide mortality, 0.5% of US GDP, 0.3% linked to hospitalization in intensive care and convalescence for long months/weeks). ??Furthermore, sepsis let you with long months of recovery and many sequelae are common. https://lnkd.in/eqsKy3_S Jacqueline Duda @Julia Kaye Fraser https://lnkd.in/ePGMKZqpShahrzad Kiavash Katy Grainger Davy Cotting Jamila Hedjal Sandra K Mary Millard M.Ed. Today is the day! ? A day 100 years in the making. A day filled with everything we have put into it: hard work, sweat, tears, determination, passion and heart. It is a day of joy. A day to celebrate science and research, volunteers and survivors. A day to celebrate all people everywhere whose lives we improve. A day to celebrate every member of the American Heart Association family.? ? Today marks 100 years since the founding of the American Heart Association on June 10, 1924. ? CPR. Pacemakers. Heart transplants. Stents. Clot-busting drugs. Congenital heart defect repairs. Treatment. Prevention. Guidelines. Precision Medicine. Our organization has made all of them possible, and in doing so, we’ve cut cardiovascular mortality in half. Our Second Century will be a time of incredible breakthroughs, many unimaginable today, guided by our vision of “advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.” ? And we can’t wait to see where we’ll go and who we’ll be, 100 years from now.
