I'm sharing insights on the potential shifts in offshore wind development within the maritime industry. Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew is collaborating with President-elect Donald Trump on an executive order to halt offshore wind turbine activities along the East Coast. This move could significantly impact New Jersey's ambitious offshore wind initiatives and the broader domestic market. New Jersey aims to generate 11 gigawatts of offshore wind electricity by 2040, constituting 30% of the East Coast's wind energy production. Recently, BOEM approved the Atlantic Shores South project, which will generate 2,800 megawatts, enough to power nearly one million homes. Van Drew, a consistent opponent of offshore wind development, has raised concerns about environmental risks, noise violations, and escalating costs. He previously proposed a moratorium on offshore wind projects. The draft executive order obtained by Heatmap News reveals plans to suspend offshore wind development and impose a stop-work order on current projects. This challenges the Biden-Harris administration's goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030. To date, the Biden Administration has approved 11 commercial-scale offshore wind projects, totaling 19 gigawatts of clean energy. BOEM has also held six offshore wind lease auctions since 2022, including record-breaking sales. The Atlantic Shores project and others now face uncertainty as the incoming administration prepares to take a different approach to offshore wind development. This situation underscores the need for the maritime industry to stay informed and adapt to potential regulatory changes. #offshorewind #JeffVanDrew #DonaldTrump #Bidenadministration #BOEM #AtlanticShoresSouth #NewJersey #environmentalrisks #executiveorder Read more on NeonHorizon??: https://lnkd.in/d3EQ2wFu

“It would be very challenging to halt [offshore wind] projects," said Kelt Wilska, ELM's Offshore Wind Director. "It would cause economic devastation [. . .] The federal government would need to compensate these developers for their losses.” Fully permitted offshore wind projects will likely remain untouched by federal interference – great news for New England's continued progress toward a clean energy grid. Just read that the Trump administration is set to impose a six-month moratorium on offshore wind projects. This is a huge red flag for the US renewable energy sector. The move adds serious uncertainty to an industry that’s already dealing with regulatory and financial challenges. For those of us in energy, this highlights how quickly political shifts can disrupt progress, especially in emerging sectors like offshore wind. With the US lagging behind Europe in this space, pauses like this only widen the gap. What’s your take—are we stalling progress, or will this reset actually help clarify the path forward? https://lnkd.in/e8hsq9fF

As with so many other current US energy policies, we likely all will closely monitor the next weeks and months for statements and possible changes from the next Administration.
The next Administration may change and/or delay US offshore wind project development, however and as as this article points out, the development timeline for most of these offshore projects go far beyond the second term of the President Elect. In the long run, we believe US offshore wind will have its successes. #WindEnergy #SolarEnergy #EnergyStorage #Transmission #RenewableEnergy #Renewables https://lnkd.in/gDAZVMwB

#EcoEdison: Symbol of #OffshoreWind #BipartisanSupport Key Takeaways: - The Eco Edison marks a US milestone in offshore wind energy. - Bipartisan support is crucial for the offshore wind industry's growth. - Challenges like inflation and supply chain issues slow industry progress. Further Insights 1. US-Built Milestone: The Eco Edison is the first US-built boat for servicing offshore wind farms, demonstrating Orsted and Eversource Energy's commitment to the sector. 2. Bipartisan Event: Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers showcased bipartisan support at the christening event, despite Donald Trump's criticism of wind energy. 3. Industry Challenges: The offshore wind sector is facing hurdles like inflation, supply chain disruptions, and local opposition, leading to delays and cancellations of major projects. 4. Political Landscape: The offshore wind industry navigates a complex political landscape, with increasing bipartisan support but significant opposition from figures like Donald Trump. 5. Economic Value: The construction and operation of vessels like the Eco Edison create economic opportunities, highlighting the tangible benefits of investing in offshore wind. Closing Thoughts: The journey of the Eco Edison underscores not only the current state of the US offshore wind industry but also its potential. How can the industry sustainably overcome its current challenges to fully harness this potential?

Re-inheriting the offshore wind success story President-Elect Trump kickstarted-"Eight years ago, the first Trump administration laid out the fundamental framework for our modern offshore wind industry and oversaw three federal lease sales that netted $456 million for the federal treasury. Industry responded by making the first supply chain investments that are now creating jobs in Texas and South Carolina. The momentum started by that administration resulted in thousands of new jobs and $40 billion in new investment. This includes $24 billion in direct investments towards manufacturing, vessel-building and shipyard upgrades, port infrastructure, transmission planning, and workforce development across 39 red and blue states." Thanks to Tina Casey for weighing on the future of #WIND in the US during these stressful times. Saved by the Supply Chain: How Offshore Wind Stakeholders Hope to Survive and Thrive The offshore wind industry appears to be especially vulnerable to a change in federal energy policy after the 2024 election, but stakeholders are in a much better position to engage bipartisan support than a few years ago thanks to the supply chain. https://lnkd.in/guDbCk-v

Read the latest from National Center for Energy Analytics Senior Fellow Gordon Hughes in RealClearEnergy: "The economic benefits of the two offshore wind farms are much lower than claimed by the governor and the jobs are, in large part, temporary assignments... Still, the very high financial burden will be borne by almost the entire population of the state." Read more below ?? https://lnkd.in/g8c-kjPe

The turbulence offshore NY & NJ continues, but in the long run, Offshore Wind will be inevitable. Fossil fuel companies such as Shell are participating, which will eventually affect the funding that some offshore wind opponents have been using for their protest efforts. #Maritime #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #WindTurbines #AlternativeEnergy #EconomicDevelopment

I see Chris Wright being open minded about offshore & onshore wind when it’s a best grid option. He may even consider environmental issues. However, he’s unlikely to confuse environment with climate.
