Over the past six months, with the help of private therapies, Andre has made incredible progress and shown remarkable potential. I don't post much on here but I wanted to take advantage of the network available to me here that I wouldn't be able to reach so easily in any other way! This Sunday, April 21st, I will be participating in the runDisney 10-Miler at Walt Disney World running with Team Hope Story, Inc. - a nonprofit organization that helps provide support to new parents and families facing a down syndrome diagnosis. They connect them with a network of other families for resources, education, support, and most importantly - hope. I am collecting donations on their behalf and 100% of funds collected will be put back into the organization (see below how a donation, no matter the size, can make an impact). These books are distributed nationwide to new parents and physicians. $25.00 - Provides one Hope Kit to an existing parent of a child with Down Syndrome so they can “adopt” their medical professional and provide peer support to new local parents. $50 - Produces material for twenty medical professional folders, providing resources to help medical professionals deliver a Down Syndrome diagnosis to new parents. $75 - Provides and ships one box (thirty books) of our Hope Stories Booklets to a medical office to give to families with a new diagnosis $100 - Helps create five podcasts that can encourage parents with a child with Down Syndrome $250 - Helps maintain, host, and update our website so that we can continue to reach new families $500 - Funds a table for our medical professional dinners. As we come to the end of #birthtraumaawarenessweek2024, we urge everyone to create a more informed, supportive, and proactive environment for addressing the challenges associated with traumatic birth experiences. During childbirth, It is important that the person must be given all the information about what the treatment involves, including the benefits and risks, whether there are reasonable alternative treatments, and what will happen if treatment does not go ahead. Today, we commemorate #DonateLife Blue and Green Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about tissue and organ donation. As we reflect on this day, two crucial issues come to light regarding transplant care. First, it’s critical to acknowledge the pivotal role that caregivers play through every step of the process. Most living donations occur within families, increasing the likelihood of the donor becoming a caregiver to the recipient. Second, it's imperative to address the inequities families of color face to access the waitlist, find a suitable match, and navigate the donation process.
