This year’s largest European defence industry event, Eurosatory, featured the biggest-ever presence of unmanned combat systems by the world-leading robotics and autonomous systems developer Milrem Robotics. Altogether, 10 of the company’s robotic systems were on display at the exhibition, which took place from June 17 to 21 in Paris, France. Eight of these systems were different versions of the THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and two Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicles (RCV). In addition to Milrem Robotics’ stand, systems were showcased together with leading industry partners: Avalor.AI, CNIM, KNDS, KONGSBERG, and Thales, additionally featuring integrated technology by FN Herstal, Metravib Defence, Leonardo, Rheinmetall, Pearson Engineering, and Vegvisir. ?? Boeing demonstrated manned-unmanned teaming of a digital F/A-18 Super Hornet and MQ-25 Stingray unmanned aircraft. In a simulator lab, a Boeing-led team virtually demonstrated an F/A-18 pilot commanding the drone to refuel the Super Hornet using existing communications links. “MQ-25 is designed to typically receive commands from air vehicle pilots on an aircraft carrier,” F/A-18 New Product Development lead?Alex Ewing?explained. “This software will add a second option, enabling pilots to initiate commands right from their cockpit.” The software significantly reduces communication time between the two platforms, offering the pilots greater flexibility in refueling over longer distances. “The goal of the demonstrations was to make MUM-T refueling as real as possible,” Advanced MQ-25 program director?Juan Cajigas?said. “Aerial refueling is like a ballet as two airplanes come together. In the increasing changes to drone warfare, Ukraine is a fascinating development ground. There are a companies who make drones for the military that have been ‘found out’ because their systems blatently don’t work in gps denied and jammed environments. This kind of equipment is not suitable for military environments. UAVTEK is a product we believe in and stand behind - Because it works. Our soldiers need this capability. They need products that work, not products from companies whose only interest seems to be money. Defence should ask for evidence that systems like drones work in the operational environment. We ask for evidence that body armour protects against ballistic threats, so why do we continue to take on other products that will not benefit our warfighters ?
