We know that Camp Lighthouse is over, but those of us involved with this amazing experience are still buzzing over it. We truly couldn't pull it off without partners, sponsors, and friends like Region 7 Education Service Center. Our partnership and shared mission to serve students with visual impairments has grown year over year, ultimately resulting in Camp Lighthouse. We are so grateful for the input and hours of time given to help make our camp a success! ?? Real change happens when we work together I recently had the privilege of attending the Annual Concert of Slum Kids School, an event that left a profound impact on my heart and soul. Organized and managed by the dedicated team of Vanchit se Charchit (IFC), this concert was not just a celebration of talent, but a testament to the transformative power of education and compassion ??Resilience and Determination: Despite facing unimaginable hardships, the students of Slum Kids School radiated joy, confidence, and an unwavering belief in their own potential. ??Holistic Support: IFC provides more than just education; they offer nutritious meals and skill development programs, ensuring the well-being of every child. ??Unity and Solidarity: From teachers to volunteers, everyone came together as a unified force, driven by a shared mission to create a better future. ?? Empowering Education: Education isn't just about knowledge; it's about empowering individuals to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams. ??Compassionate Community: Real change happens when we work together with kindness, empathy, and a commitment to helping others. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this incredible journey. It has reaffirmed my belief in the power of education to break down barriers and unlock doors of opportunity. But more than that, it has reminded me of the importance of kindness, empathy, and the simple act of reaching out a helping hand to those in need. Through the two-generation approach, children in the Learning Community Center in North Omaha increased social-emotional skills, approaching or exceeding the national average in all areas. WHY THIS MATTERS: A child's social-emotional development provides a foundation for learning from elementary school to the workforce. When young children develop positive relationships at home and in school, they feel more secure in learning and building relationships.

December can be a tricky month working in schools - with tired children, staff and parents and the rush of the end of year busyness to manage. I’ve been in many EYFS/ early primary classrooms and heard staff (and parents) say to children that Santa is watching them, so they better be on their best behaviour. However, what this fails to recognise is that young children behave better when they feel better - and snappy and tired negative teacher talk switches children off or can worry already overstimulated children even further. A great way to help boost class morale and positively reinforce showing kindness to the community is Pop and Sparkle these two little kindness elves! Every year at the start of December, the kindness elves appear! They work on the premise of “catch me being good”. Younger pupils can’t wait to open their little notes from Pop and Sparkle and complete special kindness challenges working together as a class ?? The touch of wonder, excitement and joy - is a much more powerful energy to work with than the fractious one caused by telling children to watch out. Plus; seeing children’s big beaming smiles at this time of year is utterly priceless.
