Our team loved getting to participate in the To Be Like Me Corporate Community Day. We got to hear from To Be Like Me LEADers and learn about living with disabilities and all the ways that we are similar and different from each other. The program was informative and a lot of fun - we’d recommend it to anyone! Check out To Be Like Me and their website to learn more about the different programs they offer and how you can join in. We’ve been honored to work with To Be Like Me from the very beginning on their branding, website and various collateral materials. Thankful to work with an organization doing such amazing things in this community!

Last week, with broad bipartisan support, Iowa enacted H.F. 2364, which directs the IA Natural Resources Commission to survey and develop recommendations to improve state park accessibility for disabled people. ?? Deepening Community Connections: A Dive into the Personal Support Network Model ?? In our latest webinar in the Planning and Facilitation Collaborative, we delved into the transformative potential of the Personal Support Network model, an innovative approach to fostering enduring support systems for individuals with disabilities. This session highlighted the core principles that make personal support networks both unique and effective: trust, reciprocity, and inclusivity. Key insights from our discussion: Trust is essential, not just in initiating but in sustaining relationships within personal networks. Our dialogue included practical tips for rebuilding trust where it's been eroded and establishing new, resilient connections. Reciprocity drives engagement, emphasizing that every network member has valuable contributions to make. This mutual exchange enhances the strength and sustainability of the network. Inclusivity ensures diversity, enriching the network with a wide range of experiences and perspectives, which in turn fosters a more supportive environment. Thank you to all participants for their engaging contributions and for sharing their experiences and strategies. Your insights are crucial as we strive to create more inclusive communities through active and engaged personal support networks. Stay tuned for our next session, where we will continue to build on these principles and share more about the powerful impact of well-structured support networks.

Here’s a myth I hear all the time: The bigger your community, the better. But here’s the truth: A smaller, engaged community will always outperform a large, inactive one. Think about it. What’s the point of having thousands of members if no one’s talking, sharing, or engaging? Research shows that loyalty and trust come from depth in connection, not size. When members feel seen, heard, and valued, they stick around. They contribute. And they invite others to join. So instead of focusing on growing your member count, focus on growing relationships. Ask questions. Celebrate wins. Create opportunities for real interaction. Remember, it’s not about how many people are in your community. It’s about how many are showing up. What’s your take? Would you rather have 1,000 silent members or 100 active ones? Let me know in the comments! ??

We are back! Due to life, “More than Just” has taken a backseat and I wasn’t growing the community. I am now back, and I intend to expand our public discourse on the multifaceted nature of each person, promoting understanding, and embracing the richness that diversity brings to our community - i.e. it is going to be beyond race and racism. For now, the dialogue will be online - I encourage everyone to contribute to the discussion. I am thinking of what else we can do - if you have any ideas, pls share it here. :) PS: We now have a new logo. :)?

Be your own reason to smile, you limitless disability-inclusion soul ??♀? This morning (after a 5-kilometre hike with Max) I thought: Your accessibility introduces you before you even speak. Make yours count and become a sunny destination for disabled people. ?? How? 1. Work towards building accessible environments with fantastic small businesses that have a big heart like: Access4you and @WelcoMe (Gavin Neate) ?? 2. Create an accessible social media presence by using the social media accessibility tools (that means 'image descriptions' too!) ?? 3. Learn 'How To Speak To a Disabled Person With Confidence'. ?? The link below will bring you to my updated blog post with a new image of Lilly. https://lnkd.in/dSzfmsn3 Go on. Be here to make a difference, not just a profit. Over out from ohhhhh glorious sunny Basel. Lia ?? Image description: Lia wearing her new black-framed glasses is gazing at you intently. She's sitting in her garden enjoying the blue sky and sparkling sunshine. She just got back from a walk, so there's no makeup, instead frizzy hair. Teehee.

?? Eric Setzer has lived in Charlotte for 27 years — and he almost *always* takes the bus. Read Eric’s story and learn why and how he's been an advocate for accessibility at CATS: https://ow.ly/tst950SXhXK ?? In Eric’s own words: “Advocacy is making sure that people —with or without disabilities — get the services that are offered.” We love that message, and it’s so important that our public transportation system is accessible to all users. ?? Some key takeaways: The bus is crucial for people who cannot drive due to a disability, improving the bus system for one group’s needs will improve the system for everyone, and CATS should be clear with riders about what the system defines as “on time.” ?? Special thanks to our intern Andre Phillips for interviewing Eric and writing this story.
