Happy National Farmer's Day ?????? This is a day to honor and thank the hardworking farmers and ranchers who plow, sow, grow, and harvest to feed our nation. Supporting your local farmer is easy! Here are a few ideas: Buy fruits and vegetables from your local farmers’ markets. Many small farms sell directly to the consumer through farmers’ markets. You’ll meet the local farmers who grew your food, learn about their farming practices, and buy the freshest produce, eggs, and meat. Visit pick-your-own farms. They’ll supply everything from berries to vegetables to apples to pumpkins. Consider investing in a CSA farm share next year (CSA stands for “community-supported agriculture”). Local farmers will give you a basket of freshly-picked food every week for a true farm-to-table experience. Keep your eyes and ears out for local small-town festivals. From persimmon festivals to pawpaw festivals to garlic festivals, you’re supporting farming communities. #FarmersDay #ThankAFarmer #SupportLocalFarmers

Farmers' Consumer Awareness Day – September 14, 2024 HOW TO CELEBRATE FARMERS' CONSUMER AWARENESS DAY 1. Visit a farm You can join the main event organized in Quincy. If you're far away, you can visit a farm close to you and try to get some insight into farming. 2. Appreciate the farmers It is the farmers that plant and produce the food that we eat. They're our heroes and they deserve respect and appreciation. 3. Start a farm of your own You can easily do some research and start your own farm. It doesn't have to be anything big.

Be careful when you're working with growers and consumers of different backgrounds. I'm sure the African growers you're working with love these 'garden eggs'/'bitterball' eggplants that they're used to growing and eating in West Africa, but if you're giving them to non-African consumers expecting white 'Italian' eggplants, they're in for a shock. <https://lnkd.in/gXqGbscB> Common African heritage #eggplants are a different species, and though similar in appearance, are much more bitter than what most Americans/Europeans will tolerate. Make sure you are explaining that when you distribute them to those Fresh Rx for Moms, or they may not come back for more (though those bitter qualities may actually have more medicinal value than the bland types).
In 2018, we started a partnership with Western Kentucky University funded by the Farmers Market Promotion Program to provide one-on-one and group mentorship to Kentucky farmers. Over the years this has grown to include the Equity in Ag cohorts, and support for beginning, international, and limited-resource farmers interested in expanding into institutional markets like Farm to School and Food is Medicine. Early on, we had participants in our Fresh RX for Moms program ask for white eggplant, and soon after African farmers we were partnering with suggested that they could grow white eggplant if they had the right resources. Our ultimate goal has been to increase economic opportunity for all of Kentucky's farmers, and It is such a joy to watch the bounty of their crops coming in. In the last two weeks, we have purchased over 1500 pounds of white eggplant thanks to the scaling capacity of Food is Medicine and the LFPA program. I am also reminded that this is slow and steady work. Our food system didn't disconnect in a year or two, and we should be prepared that it will take many more to build it back, better. #foodismedicine #farmtohealthcare #freshrxformoms #kylfpa #equityinag

#Innovation is hard and that is why I love it. Reflecting on the work leading my team at Bolthouse Farms on creating the new Hydration Plus platform (out now!), I think about engaging with consumers in co-discovery, editing concept statements, tasting prototypes, evaluating P&Ls, and attending stage gate meetings. This is the easy part. The hard part of innovation is #advocating. Advocating for an idea that does not exist yet, a different price point, a unique RTB, a new ingredient, for not just doing what the other guys are doing. Advocating until you have something tangible for stakeholders to see, hold, and taste and then continuing to advocate for the consumer wants and needs when everyone has an opinion to share. If you've been advocating, congrats on doing the hard work. Keep it up, just don't forget to hydrate along the way??. https://lnkd.in/gVrQdz7Q Cassie Rodriguez Allison Flato

Label readers. Cultivating love for their bud’s born-on date. Among normal consumers - not industry nerds - I’m finding curiosity for the life cycle of the plant they just purchased. Particularly its harvest. I’ve had friends find affinity because the harvest date matches their birth day date. Or other personally special day. They extrapolate the personal connection, imaging you fine farmers harvesting those buds on the day they were born, too. Which led us to wonder, if we made a run on that same dispo vault, wouldn’t all the jars be from the same batch??? And to take it further. Could not your favorite craft grower promote its harvest date, and take pre-orders by the…bale full? Then make the harvest day a special viewing for the resulting bale benefactors? I could have a barrel of born-on bourbon in my sitting room right now. What about a Cindy’s Sativa Bale, harvested on my birthday? (You got six months to grow my bale. Delivered Oblong. Or Rolled. I’ll not squabble.) Otherwise, thinking like small batch CPG’ers— please grow this idea. #craftgrowers #cultivation #buyweedfromwomen #cpg #pathtopurchase #experientialmarketing
