Team NYCM came together in a big way! 247 lbs. of non-perishable food items were collected and donated to the Feed Our Vets Organization of Utica, NY, where their goal is to provide food to veterans whose circumstances have left them on the battlefield of hunger. Collected items were also donated to local food pantries preparing for the upcoming holiday season. ??

Paying it forward
Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ?? and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

From 2023-24, there was a 12.3% rise in households assessed as homeless or at risk, with approximately 178,560 households requiring immediate assistance across England, including a significant portion in the West Midlands. For Warwickshire specifically, organizations emphasize proactive intervention, from financial aid and rent deposit schemes to mental health support for those vulnerable to homelessness. However, resource constraints remain a challenge for both statutory and voluntary agencies in effectively managing homelessness (especially rough sleeping) across the county. Here are some highlights: ?? 36% of donations (€182,261) have supported Ukrainian children and refugees ?? 36% (€180,092) have gone to animal shelters, helping 2,410 animals in 6 shelters across Latvia ?? 16% (€82,309) have supported seniors in need, providing essential daily goods and medical services ?? Additionally, the "Age is Not Lonely" project at Lidl stores has raised over €51,000 for seniors. This generosity highlights how deposit return systems (DRS) not only promote recycling and environmental cleanliness but also generate meaningful social-economic outcomes, including additional revenue streams for charities and other non-profit organisations.
